Happy Purim to all who celebrate! This year, Purim begins at sundown March 23 and ends March 24.

Purim is a joyous holiday that commemorates the salvation of Jewish people from a threatened massacre during the ancient Persian period. The celebration includes the baking of traditional "hamantaschen," triangular filled pastries. In following the commandment to give gifts to friends and the poor, the holiday also includes distributing "mishloah manot" baskets filled with treats. The centerpiece of Purim’s home celebration is the "seudah," a festive meal often accompanied by wine.
