Hip hip hooray for our 2026 Garden Picnic winner!
We 🩷 this special day in the school garden with our Gator Game Night Garden Picnic raffle winner and 3 chosen friends!
Our winner enjoyed the school garden space ALL to herself today , along with her 3 friends! The kids made special garden lemonade with fresh mint and lemon balm , garden vinaigrette with fresh garden herbs and hand picked (and washed in our new sink!!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟) artisan lettuces ! The students also went home with special garden gifts from the garden volunteers 🌸🪴👩🏼🌾.

The Granby School Garden came to the high school on Tuesday for a fun student wellness event sponsored by the WKHS Activity Club!
Miss Karyn and Miss Heidi set up a fresh herb aromatherapy station for students to create herb satchet bags!
We LOVED seeing so many of our former garden students (all grown up 🥹🩷!)
Students loved selecting leaves from chocolate mint, mojito mint, spearmint, peppermint, lemon mint, lemon balm, lemon thyme, English thyme, dill, and oregano ! There were also many dried herbs as well as essential oils to use to help students relax, recharge, and de-stress before exams!
So many sniffs! Plants are cool!
Check out Eagle Scout to be Owen demonstrating the engineering /plumbing for the new garden sink! 🥹

BUSY! 🥰🧤🌱
A huge pile of garden gloves to be washed is always a fun sign of a busy school garden !
The student planning sheets for the new K-5 Sensory Garden were just incredible. I have included a few here to share!
Windchimes (sound) colorful annual flowers like Zinnias and Sunflowers (sight) , Lambs Ear (touch) , Blue False Indigo (sound) , herbs (smell) are just a few of the cool ideas the students generated and are now planting !

Happy May!! 🦋
Although our weather and temperatures have been fairly cold these last few weeks , we are ALWAYS busy at the school garden. 🥰
With thanks to 4th grade students and Mrs.Mayberry, Granby Librarian extraordinaire, we have a brand new garden bed area!
Last Fall, 4th grade students used the Lasagne Compost layering method to suffocate the grass organically where the new K-5 Sensory Garden will be! Students learned how “sheet compost” and layer browns (carbon) and greens (nitrogen) to suppress the grass and create a nutrient rich soil!
The process can take 4-6 months … and these awesome students were successful! The new garden area is ready for planting and students came out with Mrs.Mayberry this week to get started!
After brainstorming and researching during library time, the 4th grade students came up with some incredible ideas and plans to stimulate the 5 senses with various plants and interest areas in the new garden bed!

The awesome students and educators from McCord Garden & Nature Club came to the school garden on Thursday to transplant the new native seedlings from their milk jug greenhouses! 🌟
Last late Fall, the Nature & Garden Club kids harvested and processed native Ohio seeds and planted them into milk jugs to cold stratify for the long winter. Well, their hard work paid off and we now have hundreds of amazing Ohio native seedlings! 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱
The new native seedlings were carefully taken out of the milk jugs and placed into small plastic planters so the roots can stretch out and strengthen. After a few weeks of hanging out in the small pots , the native plants will be planted into the wildflower /prairie meadows at Granby and into the new Sensory Garden area for grades K-5! 🥹🩷
These middle school kids are making a difference. We are so so proud !
