Hello ESW,
COSI is featuring a sustainability series film screening: (3/5/15)
"Tiny: A Story About Living Small"
"TINY follows one couple's attempt to build a Tiny House from scratch with no building experience, and profiles other families who have downsized their lives into houses smaller than the average parking space. Through homes stripped down to their essentials, the film raises questions about sustainability, good design, and the changing American Dream. Includes a reception with local resources and refreshments, plus an expert presentation followed by Q&A."
If anybody is interested in attending this event, please do let us know. We would be happy to help with carpooling, event cost, etc.

Hello all,
I'm not sure how many of you are on the email list within the college, so I thought it would be best to post ESW's coming events here on here. Feel free to message me for more details on any of these upcoming events/opportunities.
February:
Meeting:
Our next general body meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 25 at 6:30PM in Enarson Classroom Building room 209. We will be talking over our ongoing projects, social opportunities, a brief survey, and our role in the Sustainability Councils "Recycling Bin Signage Project." I will be sending out an agenda for the meeting next week before the meeting begins.
The Recycling Bin Signage Replacement Project:
We will be recruiting volunteers to begin replacing the signage around campus in an effort to replace all of the recycling bin "All-in-one" signs around campus to decrease the contaminates thrown into the recycling at the university, a huge problem in the past couple years. Overall, we hope to replace all of the signage throughout campus through a collaboration of various sustainability focused clubs involved with Sustainability Council. If you would like to get more involved with this project, please email me.
Side note: We will be trained on this on Thursday, February 19 in Scott Lab at 7:30PM-8:00PM. We need a representative to learn the process. If you can attend this, please let me know.
2 Volunteers needed for Sustainability Fair:
On Thursday, February 26 from ~12:00PM-4:00PM ESW will have a table at USG's Sustainability Fair taking place in The Union Concert Hall. We will be setting up a table there giving out our reusable ESW grocery bags, pens, reusable waterbottles, and setting up our display wind turbine to show what kinds of projects we get involved in. If you're interested in volunteering for this, again, please let me know as soon as possible.
March:
John Meyer Presentation:
John Meyer will be presenting on March 11 for at our general body meeting at 6:30 in the Enarson Classroom Building. He is an environmental engineer for John Morril and he's been heading a lot of their sustainable efforts. They've cut water usage by a third in the last year and have four no waste plants. A great person to have in your network if you're interested in joining the environmental engineering efforts in the future!
BYRD Research Center Tour:
ESW will be taking a tour of the BYRD Research Center on Thursday, March 26 at 5:00PM. We will be having a small presentation from the research group there on climate change, their data collection tools, and we will be seeing the largest ice core selection in the world. Email me with the title "BYRD" to obtain your spot for the tour. We have ~20 spots available.
02/04/2015
For those who may have missed the email, we will be meeting in approximately one hour from 6:30PM - 7:30PM in the Enarson Building room 254 to watch our guest speaker Sam White present on Environmental History.
Hope to see ya there. Cheers.

This riveting talk covers an exciting new technology being used to save our natural resources in some of the hard to reach places such as the savanna in Africa and the rainforests of South America. This technology can not only model the forest as a 3D display, but it can also find out what goes on below the trees to ensure that there is no illegal mining or other such practices. For those of you that are interested in ecology and natural resource management, be sure to watch this 10 minute talk.
Also, as a reminder, we have our first meeting tomorrow in Enarson Classroom Building room 211 at 6:30PM.
Cheers to the planet.
Ecology from the air
What are our forests really made of? From the air, ecologist Greg Asner uses a spectrometer and high-powered lasers to map nature in meticulous kaleidoscopic 3D detail -- what he calls “a very high-tech accounting system” of carbon. In this fascinating talk, Asner gives a clear message: To save our…
