Last night these guys made their first hooks. I walked them through the first one step by step and let them do the second one on their own. To give them confidence and see what they remembered. They all did great and needed just a minimum of coaching on the second hook. I was pretty proud of them.

Throwback Thursday
Groveport Ohio Blacksmith Frank Williams
🔥🔨⌛️

THROWBACK THURSDAY! ⌛

📸 Pictured here is blacksmith Frank Williams in his early 20th-century shop. If you’ve ever parked in the municipal lot behind the Main Street businesses at Wirt Road, you've stood right where Frank used to hammer out horseshoes!

🔨 In this historic photo, you can see Frank hard at work at his anvil. Look closely and you will notice his tools stacked beside him along the bricks, with barrels of horseshoes filling the lower right of the pic and hanging from the walls and rafters.

Back then, blacksmiths were the backbone of early America. Before machines took over, horses and mules were the ultimate lifeblood of transportation and agriculture. Keeping them shod was vital to keeping the economy moving! 🐴✨

Despite the extreme heat today we are still having open studio tonight. Bring plenty of water and be aware that the heat is gonna be STOOOPID!!!

Open Studio is THURSDAY JULY 2nd from 5PM-8PM 🔥

We offer Open Studio hours the first Thursday of every month. If you have taken any of our classes or have some previous blacksmithing experience (self taught or at another school) and have emailed us in advance ([email protected]) you’re invited to work alongside our artists on your own projects.

This is a great way to get some practice without having to buy your own equipment. Adlai and Ash will be around checking up with students to offer any guidance they may need but please come prepared to get yourself started without instruction. There are project blanks available for purchase, including kunai, spoons, and bottle openers.

In addition to the Studio being open during this session we will also have our Gallery open to the public! Stop by to pick up handcrafted goods created by our artists.
