Special Announcement for 5th grade parents,

The faculty and staff are super excited to host the last 5th grade Awards Ceremony at the G.W. Carver High School Auditorium, May 20th at 5:30. Each student will be given 7 tickets at school tomorrow. Please be sure to remind your family, friends, and guests of the protocols for the ceremony that was sent home with each student. A reminder of the protocols for the ceremony will be sent in the morning and afternoon.

Tomorrow, Monday, May 13th we will begin our Award Cermonies for all grade levels. Award cermonies will take place in the cafeteria. If you plan to attend, please be sure to read our ceremony guidelines and protocols and see the schedule below for all Award Ceremonies.

Kindergarten - May 13th at 9:00 a.m.
1st grade - May 14th at 9:00 a.m.
2nd grade - May 14th at 10:30 a.m.
3rd grade - May 17th at 9:00 a.m.
4th grade - May 17th at 10:30 a.m.
5th grade - May 20th at Carver High School at 5:30 p.m. (guests must have a ticket to attend)

1. Ceremony Attire: (Dress Code must comply with school dress code).

Males - Dress slacks, dress shirt, dress shoes, dress socks (no jeans, tennis shoes, or crocs allowed).

Females – Dress (no off the shoulder or tank dresses and the back should not be expose) and dress shoes (no jeans, tennis shoes, or crocs allowed, and flats are encouraged).

2. Ceremony Protocol: In order for everyone to enjoy this occasion, we ask all guests to observe the following:

a. Due to limited parking, we ask that family members carpool.

b. Parents will not be allowed to enter the school until 8:30 a.m. (for 9:00 a.m. ceremonies) and 10:00 a.m. (for all 10:30 a.m. ceremonies). During that time, we will have all parents participate in a brief school survey for the 2024-2025 school year.

c. Students must arrive to school by 7:45 a.m. on the day of their ceremony.

d. Balloons, posters, and noisemakers will not be permitted inside as they can cause a distraction and block the viewing of others.

e. Every student and parent deserve to hear each student’s name called. As a result, the audience is only allowed to applaud after the entire row receives their certificates/awards. This is nothing more than common courtesy and respect for others.

f. Cameras and video equipment are welcome; however, parents are not allowed to come in front of students or other parents to record the ceremony.

g. Students will not be allowed to leave in the middle of the ceremony. All students must stay to the end of the program. Once the ceremony is over, students will return to their classrooms. Parents if you would like to check out your child, you must go to the front office and sign out your child through Ms. Jones or Mrs. Short.

h. Parents will not be allowed inside of the classrooms at the end of the ceremony.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE...FIELD DAY 2024

Tomorrow, May 10th, is field day for K-5th grade students from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. All students who turned in their money for field day t-shirts received their t-shirts today at school.

Parents there is a possibility of thunderstorms and severe weather tomorrow. If there are storms in the area, our field day will be moved inside for the students and parents will not be able to attend due to spacing . A message will be sent via Class Dojo, Facebook, phone call, and e-mail if field day is canceled for outside.

If the weather is nice, we will continue with an outside field day and we ask that familes carpool due to limited parking spaces. Also, parents students do not have to dress in uniform tomorrow but must be in dress code (no holes in shorts or inappropriate clothing allowed). If students have a St. Marys t-shirt or previous field day t-shirt, we encourage students to wear them. Please ensure that your child wear shorts and tennis shoes due to the hot weather. Shorts cannot be more than 3 inches above their knees.

Lastly, parents and students will be able to purchase items from our food trucks and Kona Ice Truck. All items being sold will range from $1.00 - $8.00. If you have any questions, please call the main office at (706) 683-8841 from 7:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Georgia Milestone testing on Friday was a huge success. I would like to say thank you in advance to all K-2nd parents for ensuring that your child is on time for school so the building is quiet for 5th grade students on Monday. Tomorrow, Monday, April 29th all 5th grade students will take section 1 and 2 of the Science Georgia Milestone test. Remember, this a state-mandated test and students must participate. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS ON TIME TO SCHOOL TOMORROW AND THEY EAT BREAKFAST. Breakfast is served at the school from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 a.m.

Due to online testing, we will start no later than 7:45 a.m. in order to give students ample time to complete their test and it will end at approximately 12:00 p.m. Lastly, once testing has started students will not be permitted to check-out during testing. Please consider this as you arrange appointments.

Parents, please encourage your child to take their time for testing and do their absolute best. We are depending on you to help us keep your child motivated.

Lastly, each day all students have an opportunity to win a treat or a gift bag for being on time and good behavior throughout the day. In order to be entered into the drawing each student must be in class by 7:45 a.m. and show good behavior throughout the day. We still have a lot treats and bags to give away. Please ensure that your child has an opportunity to win!

It is almost time for our Annual Field Day on Friday, May 10, 2024. If you are interested in purchasing a field day t-shirt for your child, please complete the following pre-order form sent home on yesterday and have your child return the form to his or her homeroom teacher. Forms will need to be turned in by Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Students can bring money to their homeroom teacher starting Friday, April 26, 2024. The last day for students to turn in money to their homeroom teacher will be Tuesday, April 30th at 8:00 a.m. Parents and guardians will not be allowed to pay in the front office or bring the money to a student.

*For field day, parent and/or guardian (s) will be allowed to attend. However, siblings or other school-aged students will not be allowed to attend due to space. Lastly, all visitors will be asked to car pool in one vehicle due to limited parking.

2nd Grade Parents ONLY...

This is a reminder that tomorrow, Friday, April 12th, all 2nd grade students who turned in a permission slip will travel to the New City Hall to learn about Public Safety, tour City Hall, and meet Mayor Skip Henderson at 9:15 a.m. In order to attend the field trip students are required to wear a red uniform shirt and khaki, blue, or black pants, skirt, or shorts (NO BLUE JEANS ALLOWED).

If a student did not turn in a permission slip, is not in dress code tomorrow for the field trip, or has received a discipline infraction from a teacher or administrator, he or she will not be able to attend. If you have any questions, please call the main office at (706) 683-8841.

1. Please join us at the Parent Informational Session if you would like to hear the details about the upcoming opening of Mary A. Buckner Academy for the 2024-2025 school year. The meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. in the board room at the Muscogee County Public Education Center. We would love to see you there!

2. This is the last year that your child will be a St. Marys Stinger. What better way to enjoy memories for years to come by purchasing a yearbook for $30.00. The deadline to order a yearbook is Friday, March 29, 2024. You can only purchase the yearbook online. The QR code and link for purchasing a yearbook will be placed on the school's website, page, and Class Dojo page.
