As the school year winds down, it is time to shift your focus for end of year meetings to ensure a successful year for next year and a stress free summer break!
A few key components of your child's IEP that you should be focused on right now include Extended School Year (ESY) Services and Natural Transition Planning.
Here is what you need to know:
Extended School Year (ESY): ESY is not "summer school"—it is a continuation of special education services designed to prevent the progress your child made during the year from being jeopardized. Eligibility is an individualized decision and should not be limited to specific disability categories or administrative convenience.
Natural Transition Points: If your child is moving from preschool to elementary, elementary to middle, or middle to high school, now is a great time to meet with the IEP team to ensure a smooth and effective transition of services and placements tailored to their new environment.
Postsecondary Transition: For students turning 16 (or younger in some states), the IEP must include measurable goals and results-oriented services to prepare them for life after high school, including further education, employment, and independent living.
Exceptional Advocacy Tip: If the school refuses a service or change you believe is necessary, they are required to provide you with Prior Written Notice explaining their rationale. Request this in writing following any meeting.
Has your child met their IEP goals this year? Are they reaching a milestone? Reach out us at EAS today to ensure that their plan is ready for the journey ahead! You do not have to do this alone!

Today is World Autism Awareness Day, and the UN’s 2026 theme is "Autism and Humanity — Every Life Has Value."
This year’s World Autism Awareness Day theme reminds us that our students aren't defined by a diagnosis, but by their humanity.
At EAS, we see the brilliance, the resilience, and the unique perspectives that our neurodivergent students bring to the world each and every day. Advocacy means fighting for a world where value isn't measured by conformity, but by the richness of our differences.
Join us in celebrating the incredible students we serve! 🌈🧩

"Mutually agreed upon" isn’t just a phrase—it’s your right per IDEA. ⚖
You are the expert on your child. If you aren't there, the team isn't complete. Ensuring your meaningful participation starts with a meeting time that actually works for you. Don't let scheduling be a barrier to your advocacy!

✨ Learning. Connecting. Advocating. ✨
This week we had the opportunity to attend the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA) Conference, where advocates, attorneys, and professionals from across the country came together with one shared mission: protecting the educational rights of students with disabilities.
Conferences like this allow us to stay current on special education law, advocacy strategies, and best practices so we can continue to better serve the families we work with every day.
We’re grateful for the chance to learn from incredible leaders in the field, connect with other passionate advocates, and bring new knowledge back to the families we support.
Because every child deserves the opportunity to thrive and learn. 💙

Rare Disease Day reminds us why advocacy matters.
Families navigating rare diagnoses often face delayed identification, limited services, and systems that aren’t built for complexity. That’s where strong advocacy changes outcomes.
Every child deserves appropriate support, meaningful progress, and a team that listens.
We believe there is hope for healing — and power in informed, empowered parents.

In Pre-K, every week without the right support is a missed opportunity for development. We don’t believe in "waiting lists" when a child is struggling with self-injury or communication barriers.
A family came to us in crisis. Their child needed immediate intervention. Through expert advocacy we secured:
✔Immediate BCBA Assignment: No more "standard" wait times.
✔FBA & BIP: A clinical roadmap tailored to their child’s specific needs.
✔Specialized Placement: A move to an environment with trained staff now, not next year.
⭐The Result: A child who can finally communicate his needs—and a family finally at peace.
Don't wait for the district to catch up. Let’s get your child the tools they need today. Call us for a free consultation at (888) 392-3782 or visit our website for more information on how we can open doors for your child.

If your child is “meeting” their IEP goals but not catching up… it may be time to take a closer look at how those goals are written.
IEP goals should be ambitious enough to drive meaningful progress across an entire year - not just easy enough to check a box.
In our newest blog, we break down how to evaluate whether goals are truly appropriate, aligned to standards, and built from real data.

Real data. Better instruction. Actual progress. 💥
This is what happens when advocacy and evidence-based instruction come together. This success story starts with helping a family with twins transition from homeschooling to public school, ensuring they had the IEP's and speech services necessary to thrive.
When the "system" wasn't showing the full picture, Madison analyzed the data and pivoted the approach. Now, these students are closing the gap and finding their confidence in reading and beyond.
When progress stalls, we don't settle. Call us today for a free consultation at (888) 392-3782 or visit our website for more information on how we can open doors for your child.

Thrive and Learn Thursday 📚
The difference between a "scramble" and a "strategy" is expert guidance.
Parents are the experts on their children, but the special education "maze" has its own set of language and rules. An advocate acts as your translator and strategist, helping you navigate complex paperwork and procedural safeguards with confidence.
This weeks blog covers:
🗺 How advocates provide expert direction
🗺 Why advocacy as a powerful proactive strategy
🗺 How continuous support helps avoid chaos and confusion
You don't have to navigate special education alone. Ensure your child’s potential is met with a professional in your corner.
