Do you ever catch yourself getting easily distracted? Or constantly taken out of the moment from being stressed, worrying or overthinking?

Here are 5 ways I work on this successfully and I wanted to share them with you:

1.) When your mind wanders, gently bring it back.
This is a technique used in meditation called "noting" but can be easily applied to any moment of any day. Our minds tend to wonder a lot. Just take note when you get distracted. Don't judge yourself for it. Gently bring yourself back to focus on the current task at hand.

2.) Become more engaged in every thing you do.
Immerse yourself in what you do all day long. Try and focus with all of your senses. Focus on even little details.

3.) Reset yourself with a few deep breaths.
If something has you feeling really overwhelmed, using your breath is a great way to ground yourself!

4.) Use your body language to empower yourself.
This is a big one. I'd always notice myself slouched over, poor posture.
Notice it especially when you're using your cellphone.

How you carry yourself - your facial expressions, postures, and breathing - all effect the way you think, feel, and behave.

Expanding your body language - through posture, movement and speech - makes you feel more confident and powerful, less anxious and self-absorbed, and generally more positive.

This is all explained very well in a great book I read titled Presence by Amy Cuddy. 📙

5.) Be grateful for everything you have.
All of us are really truly blessed. You can always find things in your life you can appreciate and be grateful for. Notice them, always. 🙌🙏

As I've progressed through my professional career, I have always been drawn to helping and serving others. Being able to elevate someone else's situation or life has always been very gratifying to me and I have always enjoyed doing it.

From my years spent working in my family's hometown restaurant, to several more years spent in the insurance industry helping people through some of their most dire situations, I have been there to help serve others.

I then obtained my real estate license. It just didn't end up being a great fit for me at the time, but I was drawn to the aspect of helping others.

I was also putting a lot of pressure on myself to try and find the perfect career, trying to look outside myself for answers of where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do.

I began to worry way too often about the future or about past decisions. I let this stress me out more than enough times. I picked up poor habits and I got down on myself. I let my external circumstances affect my internal world. The first half of 2020 was really hard for me, as I'm sure it was for many.

But then I had a breakthrough....

I realized that I was causing myself all of this trouble. I wasn't seeing things clearly. I hired a life coach for myself to help me work on my mindset and get clear on my goals. I had a pretty powerful transformation at this time. I noticed that regardless of the events that occurred in my life, my response to them is what dictates the outcome. How I choose to think and feel and act is always up to me. Happiness is an inside job.

We can all create our own happiness by how we think in feel. We're always in control of that. We're also in control of how far and how high we leap in our lives. You can achieve anything you set out to achieve. The only limit is in your own mind.

So throughout this journey I've come to realize that it is actually the journey itself that is so rewarding. The opportunity we have to grow and get better each day: mentally, physically, and spiritually. To work on being our best selves, so we can show up best to the rest of the world, in our careers and in our relationships. Who we become in the process is the real reward. This is the stuff I've now chosen to help pass along to others.
