Women Empowerment Month!!

Sha'Carri Richardson

Born March 24, 2000, in Dallas Texas. She is an American track and field sprinter who competes in the 100 meters and 200 meters.
In 2019 at LSU as a freshman in she ran 10.75 seconds to break the 100 meter record at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship. In April 2021, Richardson ran a new personal best of 10.72 seconds, becoming the sixth fastest women of all time and the fourth fastest American woman in history. This winning time made her 1 of the ten fastest women in history. She is known for her colorful hair and long nails inspired by Florence Griffin Joyner.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT MONTH!

Hélène de Pourtalès born as Helen Barbey, was birthed April 28, 1868, in New York. She was a sailor who competed in the 1900 Summer Olympics representing Switzerland. Helen become the first women to represent Switzerland in the Olympics games and the first women to win an Olympic gold medal.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT MONTH!!

Wilma Glodean Rudolph born June 23, 1940, in Saint Bethlehem, Tennessee was an African American sprinter, who became a world-record-holding Olympic champion and international sports icon in track and field following her successes in the 1956 and 1960 Olympic Games. Rudolph competed in the 200-meter dash and won a bronze medal in the 4× 100-meter relay at the 1956 Summer Olympics at Melbourne, Australia. She also won three gold medals, in the 100- and 200-meter individual events and the 4x 100-meter relay at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy. Rudolph was acclaimed the fastest woman in the world in the 1960s and became the first American woman to win three gold medals in a single Olympic Game. Despite having a ruff childhood and a temporarily physical disability, she was able to overcome those obstacles to set world records in her time.

In recognition of Black History Month, we would like to put the spot light on Earl Francis Lloyd. Earl Lloyd was born April 3, 1928 in Alexandria, Virginia. He was recognized as one of the first African American to play in the NBA. Earl Lloyd begin his NBA career playing for the Washington Capital for 1 season in 1950.

Earl Lloyd was drafted for the U.S. Army at Fort Still, Oklahoma in 1951 where he served some time fighting the Korean war. He then returned back to basketball to play with the Syracuse Nationals in 1952, which he helped his team win the Championship in 1955. Earl Lloyd joined the Detroit Pistons in 1958-1960.

After his basketball carreer ended, 1965 he was the first African American assistant coach for Detroit Pistons, Later on was giving the position to be be head coach in 1971-1972. In 1993 he was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, which led to many years of recognition.

Our basketball season is coming to an end. We would like to congratulate the girls and boys for bringing their A-game to the 2021-2022 season. Our 7th-8th grade boy’s team finished with 6:5, with 1 tournament win amounting to the first winning season in history! The 7th-8th girl's team finished this season with 7:2 🎉 Our volleyball season starting February, 21. Are you guys ready? 😁
