CFAES Graduate Student Advisory Committee

For the homecoming game, GSAC hosted an All-CFAES Graduate Student tailgate. It was a great fall day for food, football, and friendship!

We had a great time at Pumpkins and Pillbugs last week!

CFAES Graduate Students are invited to a Homecoming tailgate on October 26. The event is open to all graduate students and their friends/families. Bring along a dish or drink to share! No RSVP required.

It might be summer break, but GSAC is hard at work! we recently had our first retreat at Der Dutchman in Walnut Creek.

Our first order of business: start developing a document to help define graduate student rights and responsibilities. ✅
Our second order of business: have fun! ✅✅

We would say both tasks were accomplished. Stay tuned for more updates!

It's Celebration of Research Week so we asked our STARS cohort, "why did you get involved in research?"

"I think I was a social scientist before I knew what one was. I often found myself thinking about systemic issues that were influencing the high school students I worked with as a teacher. Their ability to thrive was intricately tied to sociopolitical and sociocultural factors. There was not just one thing one could point to that determined their success or struggle. When I attended graduate school, I got excited that you could study these factors and consider strategies to improve livelihoods."

Congratulations to one of our very own GSAC members, Nicole!!

Nicole Volk, a masters student in agricultural communication, education, and leadership, attended the James B. Beam Institute Industry Conference, where she presented her thesis research, Agriculture Distilled: Enhancing authenticity through integrated agricultural connections.

Taking place at the University of Kentucky, the conference welcomed scientists, farmers, representatives and staff from regional, national and international distilleries, secondary industries, and the hospitality sector for three days of continuing education.

GSAC will now begin sharing newsletters with all the important information and upcoming activities. Enjoy! 😁

We love our grad students! Yesterday, GSAC celebrated Valentine's day with chocolate fondue, gifts, and lots of smiles! ❤️🩶🤍
