TVA’s Investment Challenge Program is an innovative and unique partnership between TVA and 25 universities in its service territory that provides a real- world learning experience in portfolio management. Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) provided the initial funding for the stock acquisitions within the portfolio. The objective of the TVA Investment Club is to educate its members about investing i
n the financial markets. Members in the club research and evaluate stocks and determine whether to buy, sell, or hold those stocks in a portfolio. The club competes with some twenty-five other colleges and universities located within the TVA service area for the highest level of return. In 2001 the club won $15,000 for having the highest returning portfolio, in 2002 the club won $10,000 for a third place finish, and in 2005 the club won $20,000. MUW's TVA Investment Club has consistently outperformed the overall stock market as measured by the Standard and Poor’s 500 Index. Membership Criteria

MUW students actively manage TVA funds by designing long-term investment strategies, placing trades, and providing performance reports to TVA — all under the guidance of a faculty member. Students learn how to manage real money and all the requirements that come along with it and are held to similar guidelines as TVA’s professional money managers. The faculty adviser for MUW'S TVA Investment Club is Dr. Andrew Lucassen. Dr. Lucassen is the Assistant Professor of Economics and Finance at the School of Professional Studies, College of Business and Legal Studies.
