June is Aphasia Awareness Month! According to the National Aphasia Association (NAA), "2 million people in the United States have aphasia, but 84.5% of Americans state that they’ve never heard the term aphasia."
This June, the NAA wants spread awareness to people outside of the aphasia community (the 84.5%). The goal is to have the message pasted below reach at least 2 million people this month. As many of you have likely heard, actor Bruce Willis was recently diagnosed with aphasia. We are deeply saddened by this news and hope that this diagnosis motivates people to learn more about the disorder and its many challenges.
Our lab, the OSU Aphasia Initiative, and several other related programs are here to support individuals and family members living with aphasia. As always, we encourage you to take steps to educate yourselves and continue to spread aphasia awareness.
