Kasey Hollington will serve as the next Principal of Oak Mountain High School. Ms. Hollington has 23 years of experience in education and currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Oak Mountain High School. She previously served as a classroom teacher for 18 years.

Ms. Hollington earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Science Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Florida State University and is a National Board Certified Teacher.

Holly Laney has been named Student Services Supervisor for Shelby County Schools. Mrs. Laney has over 20 years of experience as an educator and is currently the Principal of Helena Elementary. Prior to her role at HES, she worked as the Director of Student Services and Special Education for Tarrant City Schools.

Mrs. Laney received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Collaborative Education from Troy University. She also received a Master’s Degree and an Ed.S in Educational Leadership from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Shellie Little has been named Transportation Supervisor for Shelby County Schools. Ms. Little brings 28 years of dedicated experience in education, including 12 years as a middle and high school English and Literature teacher. She has served as the Assistant Principal at Montevallo Middle for the last 16 years.

Ms. Little received her Bachelor's and Master’s degrees, and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Montevallo.

Robert “Ed” Wright has been named Assistant Principal at Calera High School. Mr. Wright has 13 years of experience in education, with the last 3 years in administration at Pelham City Schools. He has 10 years of classroom experience as an English teacher and has taught students across multiple grade levels. He began his career teaching 7th grade in Mississippi. His most recent classroom experience was teaching 10th- and 11th-grade English in Hoover.

Sadie Kinlecheenie will serve as the next Assistant Principal of Calera Middle School. Mrs. Kinlecheenie is originally from Maryland and moved to Alabama in 2019 to play Division II lacrosse at the University of Montevallo.

Mrs. Kinlecheenie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Montevallo and a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama.

Mrs. Kinlecheenie was named the Montevallo Elementary School's Teacher of the Year for the 2024–2025 school year and earned her National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist.

What an incredible day of learning at our FOR Teachers BY Teachers Summer Conference! More than 150 educators came together to learn from our amazing teacher presenters, who shared their expertise on a variety of topics centered around Visible Learning and Teacher Clarity. Participants collaborated, gained new ideas to impact student learning, and each received a copy of The Illustrated Guide to Visible Learning to continue their professional learning journey. Thank you to our presenters and attendees for making this day such a success and for your commitment to excellence in teaching and learning!

June 29th will be the final distribution day for the Summer Meal Boxes. Additional tickets are available at all sites. To accommodate the increased number of meals, distribution will begin at 9:00 AM and continue through 10:00 AM.

This outstanding achievement didn’t happen by accident. It is the direct result of the dedication of our teachers, alongside the hard work of our amazing students!

Girls Can Camp 2026 was a huge success!

Last week, students explored careers in the skilled trades through hands-on experiences in carpentry, electrical work, and welding. Thank you to our incredible partners, volunteers, and instructors for helping to inspire the next generation of builders, makers, and leaders.

Despite a little rain, we are still smiling from the Shelby County Schools Student Services Department Community Partner Cookout, and it’s all thanks to the incredible folks who showed up!

This special event was sponsored by the Shelby County Schools Education Foundation, and its purpose was simple: to celebrate and thank the phenomenal community agencies that stand alongside our students and families every single day.
