We are sad to hear that Joe Greene, husband of past chair Amy Medlock-Greene (Dutch Fork HS, Irmo, S.C.), passed away last night. If you knew Joe, you knew that he had a big heart.
He received the Karen H. Flowers Outstanding Service Award in 2018. Amy said in her nomination, attending the SIPA convention “is how he chooses to spend his birthday weekend year in and year out! For most of the years, Joe has attended the convention, his birthday has fallen on that Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. But he has never complained about it or expressed a desire to be anywhere else; he's just happy to celebrate with his adopted scholastic journalism family. And from the warm welcome he receives from the SIPA board and attendees each year, I know they're happy to celebrate with him, too.
Find out more about Joe from our news post in 2018.
