What is Science on Tap?
It is a monthly event where early career researchers (graduate students and post-docs) present the latest scientific developments in their research to the public and peers at a local bar in downtown Columbia. Science on Tap is one event that is part of the broader Science on Wheels programming that focuses on stimulating public engagement in science, while offering early career STEM researchers an opportunity to improve their communication skills. This important interface allows community members to interact with and learn more about the research happening in their hometown. Last week the Study Center Gerzensee hosted a research group, which included Professor Zack (J. Isaac) Miller, who worked together on projects related to climate and econometrics.
Within their Research Retreat Program, they invite leading scholars from all fields of economics to visit the Study Center with their co-authors. They strive to provide an ideal environment for research groups to brainstorm on new agendas and push forward existing collaborations.

Jacob Tukker, a double major in economics & journalism, used game theory insights from Dr. Loginova's class and applied them to a real-world setting, professional sports leagues, in his KCOU 88.1 article.

A new research methods handbook published by Edward Elgar Publishing features a chapter by MU Professor of Economics Zack (J. Isaac) Miller. Aimed at macroeconomic forecasters bringing climate into their models, the chapter discusses econometric methods that lie at the intersection of macroeconomic models and climate models. Economics majors Adidja Amisi, Benjamin Finck, and Michelle Ling presented research findings from ECON 3271 as part of Spring Research Day. This event, hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research, offered 150 Mizzou undergraduate students the opportunity to give poster presentations about their course-based research projects.

John Martin, a junior, was accepted into SMU’s Data Science for Social Good Research Experience for Undergraduates. This program focuses on improving the social good in the Dallas area. Past projects included housing & urban studies, workforce development, poverty reduction, and education.

Drs. Brittany Street and Liisa Laine were recently named research affiliates of IZA – Institute of Labor Economics. IZA, affiliated with the University of Bonn in Germany, is a nonprofit research institute and research network, and is considered the leading international network in labor economics in the world. Drs. Street and Laine join two other Mizzou Econ. faculty, Drs. Michael Pesko and Peter Mueser, as members of this prestigious organization.
