As ordered by Governor Kehoe, Missouri is moving toward assigning every public school building a single A–F grade by the end of September, even though important questions about how those grades will be calculated remain unresolved.

MSTA Education Policy staff raised educators’ concerns directly with DESE on Thursday. MSTA opposes reducing a school’s performance to one letter based heavily on high-stakes test results.

Join MSTA at our upcoming Understanding Trauma and Challenging Behaviors Retreat to explore how stress affects the brain, learning, and behavior, and how principles of the Neurosequential Model can help you create more brain-friendly learning environments.

By the end of the retreat, you will:
• Understand how childhood trauma can impact learning and behavior
• Learn the basic principles of the Neurosequential Model
• Explore adjustments to classroom procedures that support a brain-friendly environment
• Learn ways to incorporate intellectual safety into instructional tasks

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Teacher of the Year program honors, promotes, and celebrates excellence in the teaching profession.
