WREN, the Women's Rights and Empowerment Network, is a new organization whose mission is to build a movement to advance the health, economic well-being, and rights of South Carolina’s women, girls, and their families. WREN aims to be the voice for South Carolina’s women, girls, and gender-expansive people by:

-Advocating for laws and policies to enhance the status of women and the well-being of f

amilies;

-Educating policymakers and the public about issues that affect women, girls and their families; and,

-Empowering South Carolinians to speak up and speak out for a better state. We seek to build a diverse, inclusive, and powerful movement for the rights of women and girls.

Sometimes that looks like calling a legislator. Sometimes it’s sharing your story, bringing a friend, learning something new, or giving $10 to help keep the work moving.

Healthy pregnancies, safe births, and healthy babies should be possible for every family in South Carolina.

But too many families still face barriers to care, with especially stark disparities for Black families and rural communities.

This fall, the Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children is holding public hearings across the state. If maternal or infant healthcare has affected your family, this is your chance to speak directly to policymakers.

In South Carolina, people with disabilities are less likely to be in the labor force and more likely to face poverty and low earnings. That’s not inevitable. It’s the result of barriers we can change.
