Every spring, our program selects two senior students to travel to a village in Honduras to provide anesthesia care where access is limited, but the impact is immeasurable.
In these remote communities, healthcare is not always a guarantee. For our students, this mission experience is more than clinical practice: itโs an opportunity to serve with compassion, adaptability, and cultural humility while delivering safe anesthesia care in resource-limited settings.
Medical mission work reminds us that anesthesia extends far beyond the walls of a hospital. Itโs about meeting people where they are, advocating for equitable care, and using our knowledge to make a global impact.
We are proud to give our students opportunities that challenge them, inspire them, and remind them why they chose this profession in over anything else. ๐โ๏ธ๐ญ๐ณ๐ฉบ

Today, our DNAP c/o 2028 began their clinical rotations, proudly wearing branded scrub caps that USC Nurse Anesthesia alumni sponsored for each student. Many chose to write personal notes of encouragement for their students, further solidifying the Gamecock bond that sets us apart. ๐ค
Thank you to our passionate graduates for honoring the legacy that has shaped our program and empowering our students to carry it forward. ๐ช
Best wishes to the Class of 2028 as you begin this next chapter - you have a whole army of support behind you! ๐ซถ

Recognizing Marcus Wilson, DNAP, CRNA: Member of the USC DNAP Class of 2024, currently practicing at Aiken Regional Medical Center. Thank you for all that you do and being so willing to precept SRNAs!
Why did you choose anesthesia?
I decided to go into anesthesia because I love being able to take care of and give all my attention to one patient at a time, as well as the challenge of getting a patient safely through an entire case. The variety of cases performed, depth of knowledge needed, and the number of procedures we get to do makes everyday a different adventure.
What is your favorite part about precepting/teaching SRNAs in the OR or clinical setting?
My favorite part of precepting SRNAs is being able to impart a small piece of knowledge that they may potentially carry with them the rest of their careers. Watching them grow into more confident, capable providers over the course of a month-long rotation is something I really enjoy watching, it never gets old.
