Wenjia Fan and Shijun Espinoza enjoyed a tour of Dragon Country while learning more about the college’s global engagement, international partnerships, and workforce development initiatives.

This year's theme is "Yoga for Wellness, Wisdom, and World Peace."

: The word "yoga" means to join or unite. The mascot, Duncan the Dragon, proudly joins the 2 billion people worldwide who practice yoga for holistic approaches to peace, exercise, stress relief, and overall well-being.

Presented by Howard County Executive Calvin Ball, the Howard County Office of Human Rights & Equity, the Harriet Tubman Cultural Center, and the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks, this vibrant celebration honors the richness of Black culture, the power of community connection, the importance of telling our stories in our own voices, and the history and ongoing significance of Juneteenth. Featuring food, music, dance, movement, storytelling, interactive exhibits, community resources, and engaging workshops, this event is geared toward the whole family.

Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, commemorates the day when enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom on June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is considered the longest-running African American holiday and officially became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021.
