⚛️ V.C. Summer Nuclear Station Unit 1 is Cleared for 80 Years ⚛️ Providing Clean, Reliable Nuclear Energy to Power the Midlands of South Carolina 💡

On June 30, 2025, Dominion Energy’s V.C. Summer Nuclear Station, Unit 1, received their second 20-year License Renewal from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission - NRC, which allows for 80 years of continued reliable operations.

V.C. Summer Unit 1 began operating in 1982, and was originally licensed to operate for a period of 40 years, until 2022. In 2002, the NRC approved their first 20-Year License Renewal Application, which allowed for V.C. Summer to operate until 2042. Today, due to the fact that their Second License Renewal (SLR) Application is now approved by the NRC, V.C. Summer Unit 1 will continue to power the Midlands of South Carolina until 2062.

Fun Fact: All three of our Co-Founders, Chris Slaughter, Jason Galloway, and Jeremy Miller, worked together at V.C. Summer Nuclear Station for over 10 years. They founded Americans for Nuclear during a lunch meeting in the V.C. Summer Cafeteria.
