History was brought to life on the hill!
The weekend, LWU hosted the inaugural Mark Twain Storytelling Festival, brought to life by Lindsey Wilson theatre professor Robert Brock and his arts administration students. The festival celebrated the art of storytelling, local history and Mark Twain’s ties to Columbia.

Lindsey Wilson University has named Terran Duncan as the next head coach of the Blue Raider women’s basketball program. ⚔️🏀
A former Blue Raider student-athlete, Hall of Fame inductee and longtime assistant coach, Duncan becomes the program’s fifth head coach after spending the past 11 seasons coaching alongside John Wethington.
Named the 2025-26 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year, Duncan brings a passion for student-athlete success and a deep commitment to the Lindsey Wilson mission.
“This is a dream job,” Duncan said. “I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity to continue the legacy that Coach Wethington helped establish.”

Driving through Columbia? Keep an eye out for the new Mark Twain mural downtown, painted by Lindsey Wilson University art major Tezon Mitchell ’27.
Commissioned by the City of Columbia, the mural celebrates Twain’s family ties to the community and the upcoming Mark Twain Storytelling Festival. The festival will be held at Lindsey Wilson on June 19 & 20.

Thank you, Coach Wethington! ⚔️🏀
After 37 seasons leading Lindsey Wilson Women’s Basketball, Coach John B. Wethington is stepping down as head coach to serve as Assistant to the President for Athletics Development.
Coach Wethington leaves the sidelines as the winningest coach in program history with 737 victories, 20 NAIA National Tournament appearances, multiple conference championships and countless student-athletes whose lives he helped shape both on and off the court.
Coach Wethington will now focus on expanding opportunities for future Blue Raiders through athletics development and fundraising efforts.
Thank you, Coach Wethington, for nearly four decades of leadership, dedication and love for Lindsey Wilson University.

For nearly two decades, Lindsey Wilson University and Southwest Virginia Community College have worked together to expand educational opportunities across Appalachia. Since 2008, this partnership has helped nearly 350 students earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees while staying close to home.
By removing barriers such as out-of-state tuition and transfer fees, and offering both in-person and online learning options, this collaboration continues to make a lasting impact throughout the region. 💙⚔️
