The DPT2s competed in the first annual Geriatric Physical Therapy “Survivor Reward Challenge” themed SIM Lab organized by Dr. Ward. 🎉

Today’s seminar guest was emeritus faculty member Dr. Paul Beattie! We had the best time learning about Wilderness Physical Therapy. 🏕️

He and Dr. Karen Beattie will be teaching a “Traversing Wilderness Physical Therapy” PT course later in March (more details on second slide).

Our DPT 1 students advocating for change yesterday at the South Carolina Advocacy day! Went to the Capitol building and surrounding offices to talk to their representatives about bill 3842. This bill would enable physical therapists to give patients temporary access to disability placards to increase access to care. This opportunity would reduce the back and forth patients currently experience to get administered a disability placard in times when they need physical therapy services.

Among this bill there are many more in the mix for physical therapy. Help us advocate for those changes!

We caught up with Gamecock DPT Program Director Dr. Shana Harrington this week to hear what all the excitement was about:

“A DPT student research group I mentored received the Student Platform Award from APTA Oncology which is for the top platform presentation at CSM in the Oncology Academy!

These students were: Natalie Auble and Julianna Heuchan. Their presentation was titled “Assessing Rehabilitation Providers’ Knowledge and Confidence Regarding Cancer”. 🎉
 
I received the 2025 APTA Oncology Dr. Cindy Pfalzer Research award. The Dr. Cindy Pfalzer Research Award was established by APTA Oncology to recognize members whose work has resulted in enduring and outstanding research pertaining to oncologic physical therapy.” 🤩
