Today, for , we highlight Ida B. Wells (1862-1931) a journalist, activist, and researcher in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born a slave during the Civil War, Wells went on to become college educated and used her knowledge to fight for racial and gender equality. She notably published her research on lynching and caused outrage leading to her press being burned and being run out of the state. She continued to bring awareness to white mob violence and worked to confront white women in the suffrage movement who were mostly ignoring the struggles of their black counterparts. Wells was also a founder of the National Association of Colored Women's Club which addressed civil rights issues and women's suffrage.
