The Andrew Billingsley Faculty Award and Andrew Billingsley Community Leadership Award are biennial awards designed to honor one faculty member and one member of the Columbia community who each embody the legacy of Dr. Andrew Billingsley and his scholarship on behalf of African American families.

50th Anniversary Events - African American Studies Program | University of South Carolina Our 50th anniversary event series will highlight the cultural and historical importance of the African American experience throughout the 2021-2022 academic year.

Join us tomorrow, September 29 at 7:00pm in Gambrell Hall 153 for a screening and panel discussion of the new documentary film "Downing of a Flag." The African American Studies Program is proud to host this event at UofSC in cooperation with South Carolina ETV.

Join us this Wednesday, September 22 at noon on Zoom for the first installment of our Faculty Conversation Series featuring Salandra Bowman, the Interim Vice President of Education at South Carolina ETV.

Bowman is a graduate of the African American Studies Program and has served as an adjunct instructor in our program. She is completing a doctorate in Educational Foundations and Inquiry at UofSC. Her work explores the intersections of Black girlhood, educational content production, and public media.
