✨ PRECEPTOR SPOTLIGHT: Brenda Peña✨

💬 What inspired you to become a preceptor?
Being a dietetic intern is overwhelming, nerve-racking, and exciting all at once. The right preceptor can make or break that experience. The ones who impacted me most took time to check in, challenge me, and give honest feedback. They made tough rotations feel manageable and reminded me I was in the right field. Becoming a preceptor is my way of paying that forward.

💬 Favorite skill to help interns develop?
Confidence paired with clinical judgment. I love watching interns grow from second-guessing themselves to confidently communicating with physicians and making strong nutrition support recommendations. That transformation takes time—and the right environment.

💬 Advice for clinical rotation?
Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Growth happens outside your comfort zone. Be curious, ask questions, and treat every patient interaction as a learning opportunity. Pro tip: keep a binder of resources and bring it daily—you’ll use it more than you think.

🍊 Favorite fruit?
Top 5 (season-dependent 😉): Passion fruit, persimmons, Sumo oranges, pomegranates, and gooseberries.

💚 Thank you to our preceptors for shaping the future of dietetics!

🌟 Preceptor Spotlight: Elizabeth Bittner, RDN🌟

We’re excited to highlight Beth, one of our incredible preceptors, who is passionate about shaping the future of dietetics.💚

✨ What inspired her to become a preceptor?
“I genuinely wanted to give back and ensure a good experience. So many people helped me grow in this field, and it feels important to pay that forward. I really believe the preceptor experience shapes the future of dietetics, and I love being part of that process.”

🧠 Favorite skill to teach interns:
"I love helping interns build their skills in being comfortable at the bedside. They are always nervous about what to say, and so much is running through their minds during the interview part of the process. I like showing them how to make it a down-to-earth, “how can I help this patient” experience instead of something intimidating."

💬 Advice for interns starting clinical rotations:
“When you go into a patient’s room, find a way to help them. Sometimes it’s not medical. Sometimes it is as simple as being a listening ear or grabbing another blanket for them. Treat them the way you would want your own family member to be treated in the same situation."

🍉 Fun fact:
Her favorite fruit is watermelon, light, juicy, and refreshing!

Beth is the Clinical Nutrition Manager for Doctors Medical Center of Modesto.

Thank you, Beth, for your dedication to mentoring and inspiring the next generation of RDNs 💫
