🎉 Congratulations to LaTonya Jackson, JAG Specialist at Columbia High School, and Vernell Capers, JAG Specialist at Orangeburg School of Health Professions, for being recognized at the 2026 National Career Development Conference hosted by Jobs for America’s Graduates in Salt Lake City! 👏

During the conference’s opening ceremony, both Jackson and Capers were honored with the National Service Project Merit Award (High School Division). This prestigious honor is awarded to JAG chapters that complete at least 500 hours of community service or contribute $500 or more in support of a service initiative with the unhoused population.

Columbia High School’s JAG students earned this distinction through their dedicated service project supporting individuals experiencing homelessness in partnership with the City of Columbia. Their efforts reflect a strong commitment to community impact, leadership, and civic responsibility.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and heart of our students,” said Jackson. “They took initiative to serve others and made a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.”

Capers said, “We participated in the National Service project by collecting over 200 blankets and we also partnered with The Blood Connection collecting over 85 units of blood which stays in our local community.”

The National Career Development Conference brings together JAG students and specialists from across the country to celebrate achievements, develop leadership skills, and compete in career-based events.
