Sending prayers to the Stanford community as they mourn the passing of LWU alum Dalton Miller ‘94.
“Dalton was a very effective leader, and was hugely popular with both city staff and city constituents.
A tireless worker and city promoter, Dalton went to great lengths to make Stanford a better place.”
UPDATE 6/1/2005 (from Abigail Roberts at Lincoln Couny Daily News)
Joe Lynn Gilliland will be the interim mayor under an executive order entered by Dalton Miller in 2022.
He will have the authority and power to perform any and all necessary executive functions, other than the ability to approve ordinances or promulgate regulations.
Councilman Joe Tackett will have the authority approve ordinances or promulgate regultuons.
The council has 30 days to appoint an interim mayor until thvotees choose one in November.
===========
Stanford Mayor Dalton Miller has passed away after a brave and public two-year battle with cancer.
He was elected mayor in the 2020 special election to fill the term of Scottie Ernst who died unexpectedly in a mowing accident.
Dalton was re-elected to a full term in 2022 and had been a two-term city council member before becoming mayor.
Sadly, Dalton is the third Stanford Mayor claimed by death in the past 12 years. T. J. Hill won the 2014 election but passed away unexpectedly two weeks later, before taking office.
The city succession plan will be followed until the council can appoint an interim mayor.
In 2020, the council went outside the council chambers and chose local Reverend Jerry Wilkinson, who served several months until the special election was held.
Unless the succession plan has been changed since 2020, Stanford Fire Chief Scott Maples will serve as interim mayor for 30 days until an interim mayor is appointed by the council.
The non-partisan Stanford Mayor seat is up for election in the November election.
Dalton was a very effective leader, and was hugely popular with both city staff and city constituents.
A tireless worker and city promoter, Dalton went to great lengths to make Stanford a better place.
Rest in peace, Dalton, your hard journey is concluded.
