What a week here at the Carolina Journalism Institute!
High school students from five states spent the week here in the CIC diving into sports media, producing stories on everything from athletes' mental health to the unique experience of a minor league baseball game.
We're so proud of the work they've created and excited to see what these future communicators accomplish next!

Our USC Advertising Team earned third place at the AAF District 3 National Student Advertising Competition, held April 9–10 at UNC Charlotte. Competing alongside top programs, the 15-member team developed a comprehensive campaign for the National Football League, gaining valuable real-world experience in strategy, media and creative ex*****on.
After months of collaboration and planning, the team was also honored with the Mosaic Award, recognizing campaigns that authentically highlight underrepresented voices and create meaningful impact. Led by advertising instructor Kristin McRee Walker, the group demonstrated both creative excellence and a strong commitment to inclusive storytelling.
“This was more than a competition. It was a defining experience,” said Walker. “This group represents some of our highest-performing students across disciplines and marks the first time in our program’s history that we built a fully integrated agency.”

We are incredibly proud of our University of South Carolina Student Advertising Team! They are in the final stages of preparation for the National Student Advertising Competition, District 3, in Charlotte. Due to competition rules, we can’t show you their faces until after the judging. Just know, these hands have done hours upon hours of work over the last few months.
This outstanding group has demonstrated exceptional dedication, creativity and strategic thinking in developing a fully integrated campaign for the NFL. Their work reflects the kind of talent, collaboration and real world experience that define the student experience in the College of Information and Communications.
We wish them the very best as they represent our college and university on the District stage.
