Fusion Academy in Columbia, MD opened in 2018 as Fusion’s 48th campus nationwide. Fusion Columbia is a private school where classes are one-to-one: one student and one teacher per classroom. Our Teacher/Mentors can personalize curriculum and pacing for their students’ strengths, interests, and learning style. Students may attend full-time for middle and high school or part-time with classes for credit, tutoring and mentoring, post-secondary counseling, and more. We offer rolling enrollment so students can start at any point, even mid-semester or mid-year.

We are beyond proud of our amazing DSS and HOS for bringing home some incredible accomplishments from their EPIC! trip!  We are honored to be part of the Fusion Vision100! group, celebrate our Mid-Atlantic Region’s District of the Year Award, and give a HUGE congratulations to our very own DVP, Lisa, for winning EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR!

First Senior year lunch event!

We kicked off the year with a special Senior Lunch with our lead teachers and 17 amazing seniors! With such a special senior class, we wanted to create a little time to connect, celebrate, and build those senior-year memories together.

And of course, we had to add a little nostalgia! Everyone received a personalized brown bag with their name and a handwritten note inside… just like Mom/ guardian used to make! 🥪💌

Here’s to an incredible year filled with connection, memories, and plenty of senior moments. We can’t wait to see what this year brings!

🔥🌶️Our first Social Night of the year REALLY turned up the heat!

Our Hot Ones Challenge had students (and teachers!) testing their bravery with some of the hottest sauces I’ve ever had 😳while interviewing each other and learning even more about our friends along the way.

So impressed by everyone who took on the challenge—there were definitely some tears..but even more laughs

In conventional schools, motivation often comes from external pressure — grades, competition, fear. But that kind of motivation is fragile. It exhausts students. 🥺

Real motivation comes from something else: knowing you have support. Knowing you can ask for help without judgment. Knowing someone is paying attention to whether you're actually succeeding.

When a student feels that, they stop pushing through obstacles and start solving them. And focus becomes possible.

Then he finds a place that gets him. That wants to know all the interesting, quirky stuff he's thinking about.

When a student struggles in traditional school, the blame usually falls on the student. Lazy. Unmotivated. Not trying hard enough. 😵‍💫

But what if the problem isn't the student? What if it's that the system was never designed for how they learn? One lesson, one pace, 30 kids — that's efficient. But it's not effective for every learner.

Getting a diagnosis for your child can feel like relief and uncertainty at the same time.

Relief because finally, you understand why traditional school isn't working. It's not laziness. It's not attitude. She learns differently.

Belonging changes everything. When a student feels seen, known, and accepted for who they are - something shifts. They show up differently. They take risks. They begin to believe there is a place for them.

It was an honor leading this workshop on The Belonging Gap across our Massachusetts campuses:

For 11 years at Barnstable Academy, Jeff has been doing something rare: he's built a classroom where curiosity is contagious. Students leave his STEM classes still buzzing about experiments and discoveries.

But Jeff's impact ripples far beyond his classroom. He opens his door to colleagues. Leads professional development. Mentors teachers. Organizes the school events. And after the bell rings? He's hosting game nights, building community.
