Walker Leadership Scholars

2026 edition of another successful DC policy and advocacy trip! Our Walker Leadership Scholars each year have an amazing opportunity to immerse themselves into the world of pharmacy policy and advocacy through meeting with various national organizations and leaders. Throughout the trip, the scholars gain insight from each organization sharing different perspectives on current topics of high impact in pharmacy to prepare for the final day of the trip on Capitol Hill, this year focusing on the ECAPS bill. And of course, there was some gorgeous sight-seeing in their free time!

Following the trip, the ECAPS bill was marked up, advanced through the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee for consideration by the House E&C Committee, and is now known as the Main Street Pharmacy Access Act! This is the furthest legislation reimbursing pharmacists for services under Medicare Part B to expand access to care has advanced in congress and reflects the power of YOUR collective voices and outreach! Thank you to all who made this experience possible!

The Walker Scholars had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Melissa Corrigan for our April Fireside chat following our meeting at APhA Annual conference. We had a wonderful conference and recap of the Zada Cooper Leadership Symposium which honors the educator, advocate and leader Zada Cooper who pioneered the way for Women in Pharmacy across the board. Thank you Melissa for this and all else you shared with us!

APhA Annual Los Angeles 2026!
We are so grateful to have attended this year’s annual APhA conference and to have met with so many amazing leaders and individuals whose experiences and advice are constant reminders that it is the “We” rather than the “I” that makes up the heart of the Pharmacy profession.
We had the opportunity to attend the Women in Pharmacy Leadership Forum for the first year of the Zada Cooper Leadership Medal award, and the Re*****on Honor Medal ceremony for the 2026 recipient, Tom Menighan!

Last week, the Walker Leadership Scholars met with Dr. Harry Jozefczyk for our monthly Fireside Chat. Dr. Jozefczyk is the Director of Pharmacy Oncology and Ambulatory Infusion at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital with previous experience as the manager of Pharmacy Consolidated Services. He provided amazing advice and resources regarding pharmacy administration and team management, ambulatory oncology services, as well as work-life balance. We extend our appreciation and thanks for these valuable conversations!

Dr. Jan Engle, the Executive Director of the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) spoke with the Scholars last week to share her experiences in various settings of pharmacy and highlight . From being an OTC medication expert to serving as past APhA president, to providing international guidance as prior chair of the ACPE International Commission committee, Dr. Engle has a unique, successful, and interesting background that was amazing to take in. Thank you Dr. Engle!!

For our November Fireside Chat, we had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Ashley Moose. Dr. Moose graduated with her B.S. from the University of Kentucky and is the Pharmacy Manager and Co-Owner of Moose Pharmacy in Monroe North Carolina. We loved hearing about her journey in discovering Pharmacy and her path to business ownership from Undergraduate to Pharmacy School and into Post-Graduate life. Thank you Dr. Moose!
