First day of a new class at UofSC: "Shalom Y'All: Jewish History in the American South. Engaging History Through Objects." What started out as an NEH Summer Institute at the College of Charleston (thank you Dale Rosengarten and Shari Rabin!) is now a new upper-level history course. We'll be looking at Jewish cookbooks, 18th c. miniatures, the lunch counter (as a space of encounter during the Civil Rights Movement), synagogues, vinyl record covers, and lots more!

Hi all -- this coming Fall semester I'll be teaching a new course at USC called "Shalom Y'all: Jewish History in the American South" (HIST471). Help spread the word!

Holocaust Remembered 04/15/2020

The 2020 Supplement of "The Holocaust Remembered" appeared throughout the South Carolina today, including in the Post & Courier. This annual publication chooses a different theme each year, and this time around it appropriately centered on "75 Years Later: What Have We Learned?"

Numerous USC faculty contributed articles, including Federica Schoeman and Saskia Coenen Snyder (Jewish Studies), Doyle Stevick and Meir Muller (both from Education), and Ted Rosengarten (College of Charleston and USC Honors College). Mayor Steve Benjamin also wrote a piece. Many thanks to Lilly Filler for investing an enormous amount of time in this annual edition.
