The Capstone Scholars Program is a living learning community, designed to provide opportunities both in and out of the classroom.

Six core pillars comprise the Capstone Scholars Program, with each shaping the experiences we create for our students: common academic experiences, leadership, career readiness and professional development, global learning, research and service!

But what do these pillars look like in action? Meet Anna Sparrow, a junior neuroscience major and the first of our Scholar Stories.

Through the program, Anna has expanded her learning beyond the classroom through two separate Capstone Scholars Maymester experiences in Denmark and Progue. In these destinations, she explored new cultures, broadened her perspective and created long-lasting memories along the way.

From hearing true jazz music for the first time to enjoying fresh strawberries from European markets, Anna embraced every opportunity to make her travels her own. She also found community rooted in these trips, building meaningful relationships with fellow scholars and program leaders given the small-group settings.

Her advice to students looking to travel abroad? “Don’t hesitate — do it!”

Behind every impactful Capstone Scholars event is a team of students ready to help bring it to life! ✨

Before stepping into the semester, our Ambassadors came together for training, collaboration and team-building in preparation for welcoming and supporting students. Now, just three weeks in, they have been putting those skills into practice and have already made their mark on the program community.

Their efforts reflect leadership, professional development and beyond-the-classroom growth, which are at the core of Capstone Scholars. Our Ambassadors live these values daily, and we are excited to see how this team mentors, learns and grows throughout the year alongside all of their peers!

Last Friday, our students took to the water to experience Columbia beyond campus. Year after year, tubing down the river is one of our favorite ways to make new friends, soak up the sun and create lasting memories!
