The Music Institute: offering music lessons, classes, ensembles, and a variety of performance opportunities to people of all ages and needs at Howard Community College since 2003. The Music Institute offers private music lessons in band and orchestral instruments; classical and jazz piano; voice; jazz, acoustic and classical guitar; and folk instruments including Celtic harp, bagpipes and ukulele.

TMI is very excited to announce a condensed version of Dr. Hsiu-Hui Wang's Piano Performance Seminar! Registrations are now being accepted for our newly created late Spring Class:
Piano Performance & Music Cultivation Seminar (2 classes) at HCC
Led by Gemini Piano Trio pianist, Dr. Hsiu-Hui Wang , this seminar series is held in an informal masterclass setting and covers all aspects of musical knowledge, wisdom, wellness, and piano performance preparation and planning strategies. This seminar aims to provide a fun and supportive atmosphere to help students build confidence, offers performing experiences, and nurtures their appreciation for music. Students will have the opportunity to participate in discussions and give constructive feedback to their peers.
The seminar consists of 2 one-hour sessions and an opportunity to participate in the post-seminar recital at the recommendation of Dr. Wang. The seminar sessions meet only during the spring semester from April - June. Occasionally, if necessary, the seminar session time may be extended to 1.5 hour to accommodate all performers with a short break. Eligible students may also participate in certain TMI recitals and HCC Masterclasses, as well as community outreach performance opportunities at the recommendation of Dr. Wang. The outreach performances may be counted toward community service credits. Please refer to individual schools for more details.
For more information, please contact Dr. Wang at [email protected]. Age - Ages 7 and up or upon the recommendation of the instructor. Minimum number of enrollments is 3 per semester. Maximum number of enrollments is 10 or at the discretion of the instructor.
$140/$15 Fee per student

The Music Institute is very pleased to announce that Dr. Lori Sen, mezzo-soprano, has joined the TMI/HCC Voice Faculty. Dr. Sen is available for remote lessons during the summer months. During the fall semester, Dr. Sen will be available for in-person and remote lessons. If you are interested in learning more, email us at [email protected].

We are excited to announce a new benefit to our students. As long as you are fully enrolled in an ensemble or in private lessons with us, you are now eligible to access and stream music from the Naxos Music Library through HCC's Library Databases, free of charge! The Naxos Music Library contains over 87,000 albums on multiple music labels encompassing many different genres of music from blues and jazz to classical. After a bit of a hiatus, the TMI Tempo is back. It includes an exciting announcement regarding private lessons! Just a reminder that our Spring Virtual Recital link is up and running. The recital can be viewed through Sunday, June 13th; no registration required.
