Palmetto Preparatory Academy is a post-graduate prep school. Our goal is to assist student-athletes The name change became official November 9, 2014.
Palmetto Preparatory Academy, was originally founded in 2011 as ‘Gray Military Academy’. The program took on new leadership in the Fall of 2014, and felt that a name change was necessary. Palmetto Prep acts as a post-graduate prep school. We help student-athletes get qualified and earn scholarships. Palmetto averages 34 student-athletes per year that receive an offer to continue their athletic and

On August 29, 2023, our Athletic Director Wes Dorton went home to be with the Lord. He was an amazing coach, leader, mentor, father and friend. We are saddened by the loss but overjoyed that he has finally claimed victory in Jesus!
His vision for this program will continue as he had put key leaders in place in preparation for his absence. Palmetto Prep Academy will truly continue to Battle On and strive to accomplish the ultimate mission of ministering to student-athletes through football.
Below is a very limited snapshot of his accomplishments during his time at Palmetto.
-2011 started as the recruiting coordinator for then; Gray Military Academy. Assisted in several different roles at Gray until 2015.
-2015 was promoted to Athletic Director & Head Coach and facilitated the name change and rebrand to Palmetto Prep Academy.
-From 2015 through 2022 Palmetto Prep has a 93% offer rate of student-athletes to complete the program and move on to college.
-Under his leadership over 200+ athletes have moved on to play college football. Of this, 35% have moved on to play Division 1 football.
-In 2021, Began the process and secured land for a new campus specifically to meet the needs of the student-athletes of Palmetto Prep. This vision is still ongoing and in process thanks to a great team that believed in Wes and the program!
-In 2022, Joshua Williams became the first Palmetto Prep alum to win a Super Bowl as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.
We are forever grateful for the amount of hours put in by Wes. Most will truly never know how much work he put in on behalf of these student-athletes.
We are thankful and will do our best to continue the vision. To God be the Glory, and as always...Battle On!
