Join us in wishing Senior Academic Advisor Art Farlowe a happy retirement! Farlowe has worked in the College of Information and Communications for 20 years, with an additional 12 years in other state agencies. He has positively impacted thousands of students in his time with the college through his genuine care for the individual and friendly demeanor.

“Throughout his career, Art has been a steadfast advocate for students and has played an instrumental role in supporting student success across the college,” says Assistant Dean for Student Success Rushondra James.

At a retirement reception on Tuesday, May 12, James announced the inaugural Art Farlowe CIC Student Success Award. This new award will honor Farlowe’s legacy by recognizing an undergraduate graduating senior who exemplifies perseverance, resilience, engagement, personal growth and commitment to academic success.

Every great college experience starts with people who believe in what they're building. At CIC, Dean Tom Reichert is one of those people. In this video he shares the vision behind everything happening at the College of Information and Communications right now and what it means for students who choose to be a part of it.

It’s National Donut Day! Since most of you aren’t here, we’ll hold off on buying any for you until the next Donuts with the Dean in the fall.

Most students spend their first year figuring out what tools their industry uses. Katie Altman is already using them.

A junior double-majoring in visual communications and information science at CIC, Katie is building her portfolio before she ever walks across a stage. Through the AI and data analytics track in CIC's information science program, she's working hands-on with R, Qualtrics and Tableau, the same tools she'll encounter on day one of her career.

"The iSchool does a really good job of giving us career-level access to programs that will be used in these fields," she says. "I have enjoyed playing around with them, learning them and then also using them in class and to make projects for my portfolio."

That's the combination that makes CIC's information science program different. It's not just versatile, it's practical. Students don't graduate hoping their skills translate. They graduate with proof.

For students interested in data, design and the intersection of both, the double major in visual communications and information science is one of the most in-demand combinations coming out of CIC right now.

Our ambassadors don't just represent CIC. They live it. 🤍

Students like Ava Billotto joined this college and found peers that became family, professors that became mentors and a place that felt like home.

Now they're paying it forward, showing up for admitted students and sharing their stories firsthand.

The researchers coming out of CIC aren't just studying their fields. They're preparing to lead them. 🤍

Raphael Ebiefung, a PhD Researcher in Digital Information Literacy at USC, wrapped up the spring semester with two significant credentials: the Preparing Future Faculty certificate, a nationally recognized award for doctoral students on track to become impactful faculty members, and the Sharpgrad Certificate, earned through a series of research skills workshops hosted by USC Libraries.

This is what the next generation of academic leadership looks like.

Real clients. Real campaigns. Right here at CIC. 🤍

The Carolina Agency is a student-run public relations firm housed within the College of Information and Communications, and this fall it's welcoming new members like Reid Williams to its Accounts team. Students work with an actual client portfolio, develop campaigns and build the kind of hands-on experience that sets them apart before graduation.

Leadership isn't just a line on a resume.

At CIC, it's something students build in real time.

Erin Armani, a public relations and business senior, served as President of Zeta Phi Eta Beta Mu and spent her tenure transforming it into one of the most recognized organizations in the CIC community. Membership nearly doubled. Applications hit an all-time high. New systems, new structures and a stronger chapter culture followed.

This is what CIC students do with the opportunities in front of them.

This week, we're shining a light on some of the Gamecocks who make us proud every single day.

From landing interships with the Philadelphia 76ers and working PGA Tour events to leading organizations, joining CIC as ambassadors, our students are doing incredible things.
