The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed the detection of a New World screwworm (NWS) in a bovine in Zavala County, Texas. NWS is a serious pest that affects livestock, pets, wildlife, and less commonly, people and birds. To date, this is the only known case of NWS in the U.S.

The offices of Clemson University Livestock-Poultry Health (the Animal Health Programs, the Clemson Veterinary Diagnostic Center, the South Carolina Meat-Poultry Inspection Department, and the State Veterinarian's Office) are closed today in oberservance of the Memorial Day Holiday. Our lab's sample receiving section is open from 10 AM - 2 PM to meet your diagnostic needs. Our office hours return to normal on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

On Monday, February 16, 2026, the Clemson University Livestock-Poultry Health offices (Animal Health Programs, Clemson Veterinary Diagnostic Center, the South Carolina Meat-Poultry Inspection Department, and the State Veterinarian Office) are closed in observance of Presidents’ Day.
The Clemson Veterinary Diagnostic Center's sample receiving section is open from 10 AM to 2 PM.
We will resume regular business operations on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
