Calling all music teachers, choir teachers, voice teachers, community song leaders, small ensemble creators! Anyone who needs continuing ed. credits this summer...anyone who is interested in learning more about how the brain learns music and hearing the results immediately. Anyone who wants to help groups of people sing together more beautifully, more informed, more intentionally. This is a fabulous, creative process your brain will love, taught by a master Music Learning Theory teacher. A wonderful opportunity to work with Andy Mullen and make lifelong friends with new colleagues around the country. We will have SO much fun musicking together every day for one week in person, in Winston-Salem, NC, plus some online sessions ahead of time. Please reach out to me if you are at all curious or interested and I will personally get you all the info you need to register. The deadline is approaching. As of today there are still spots open. Won't you join me?

If you are a music teacher interested in Summer PDL credits, this is my favorite organization to study with, the Gordon Institute for Music Learning. I'll be attending the North Carolina location this year so I can visit family and friends on the way there and back. They are offering Level 1 courses in Piano and in Choral. This would be a fun way to immerse yourself in Music Learning Theory, with Andy Mullen and Hannah Mayo. If this location or subject matter doesn't work for you, check out all the courses here (Early Childhood, Elementary, Instrumental).

Sing for your health!

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1amj1ynbc2/

Your voice holds power far beyond words.

According to a fascinating study, singing for just one hour can increase your body’s production of secretory immunoglobulin A, or SIgA, by up to 240 percent. SIgA is your immune system’s first line of defense. It coats the lining of your mouth, throat, lungs, and digestive system, blocking viruses and bacteria before they invade deeper.

Researchers compared people who sang to those who simply listened to music or sat quietly. The difference was clear. Singing led to a massive spike in immunity, while the other activities offered only minor changes.

The act of singing is not just emotional. It is physical medicine. Breath control strengthens the lungs. Muscle engagement improves circulation. Vocal vibration stimulates healing in the chest, face, and brain.

Even more impressive? Singing activates the vagus nerve. This nerve calms the body, regulates stress, lowers cortisol, and balances your immune system. It is the body’s natural switch between fight mode and healing mode.

This is not about singing well. It is about singing fully. Whether it is gospel in a choir, humming in the kitchen, or belting a pop song in the car, your immune system listens and responds.

Singing also boosts endorphins, creating a natural high that relaxes the mind and energizes the body. In a world overwhelmed by stress, that shift can be the medicine many people never realized they needed.

So sing like your health depends on it. Because science says it just might.
Your voice is more than expression. It is immunity in motion.

Music Play is not your average music class for little ones. Since the brain learns music like it learns language, I model the parts of music that make up the whole (rhythm and tonal patterns along with tunes and plenty of movement). Children will naturally listen, imitate and respond in a variety of ways - sometimes rhythmically, sometimes tonally, sometimes movement-wise! We'll have musical conversations and jam sessions - all without conversational speaking. It is remarkable to witness and joyful to participate in. I observe each child's movement through the developmental process of music learning, ready to give them the next prompt as they climb the rungs of the music development ladder. I would LOVE to have you join me this September thru November.

This Fall session will be on Friday mornings. I am currently working on securing a classroom space. Once this is confirmed, things will move quickly. Please comment or message me if you are interested for your children or grandchildren, from birth through five. Once the space is confirmed I will be figure the exact dates and tuition.

I'm happy and pleased to report that my Hummingbirdhouse Music Studio Fall schedule is coming together nicely! Everything is penciled in as I wait for confirmations. Soon it will be set in stone and ready to begin next week. While the details are working themselves out, I will mention that I might have one after-school piano opening left, one mid-afternoon opening for an adult or homeschooled student, and one evening part-time (2X month) opening for an adult student. There MAY be time and space for an after-school drumming class. I am saving Friday mornings for a caregiver-assisted Music Play Early Childhood class, which will run Sept. 12th thru Nov. 14th. And finally, I'm SO excited there's room for a Women's Gathering of Song class on Wednesday evenings from Sept. 10th thru Nov. 12th. Let me know if you have questions or want enrollment info for anything I mentioned.
