We are excited to be at in Helsinki! For the next three days our Director Randall Westgren, Research Associate , and two colleagues from Mizzou Philosophy - André Ariew and Travis Holmes - will be engaging with colleagues from around the world working in the philosophy of economics. We are pleased to announce that our Research Associate Lucy McGowan has been selected to present at the Social Simulation Conference 2019, to be held this September at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. The work she will share with colleagues there covers three philosophical accounts of group formation and group agency in entrepreneurial teams, modeled using NetLogo. Lucy is also a PhD student in the Division of Applied Social Sciences- University of Missouri's Agribusiness and Organizaitonal Economics emphasis area, with which the McQuinn Center is affiliated.

Today we received notice that a paper by Director Randall Westgren and Research Associate Jason Entsminger has been accepted for presentation at the 14th Conference of the International Network for Economic Method (INEM) to be held at the University of Helsinki this August! Meet the latest researcher to join the McQuinn Center's staff!
Lucy Mills joined the McQuinn Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership in Fall of 2019. She is a PhD student in the Division of Applied Social Sciences- University of Missouri's Agribusiness & Organizational Economics graduate program, with which the McQuinn Center is affiliated. Her research interests are focused on governance of the entrepreneurial team, as well as entrepreneurship and innovation in the renewable energy sector.
Prior to joining the McQuinn Center, Lucy stayed close to entrepreneurship. As a Market Research Analyst for Farmland Foods, she focused on researching and leveraging consumer insights to assist with new product development. At Enginuity Worldwide, a renewable energy start-up, Lucy was responsible for economic modeling, business development, and strategy deployment. Drawing on her unique background in marketing, product development and entrepreneurial research, Lucy developed a model for carbon commerce unique to Enginuity’s technology that could accurately capture the value of their bioeconomy processes.
Previously, Lucy completed her Master’s in Agricultural & Applied Economics under the McQuinn Center’s Director and Endowed Chair for Entrepreneurial Leadership, Professor Randall Westgren. The focus of Lucy’s MS thesis was modeling the ontology of entrepreneurial groups. As an undergraduate, Lucy conducted research on a number of projects focused on entrepreneurship, including the social network of the Missouri wine industry.

We are pleased to announce that our Research Associate, Jason Entsminger, was notified today that he has been accepted to present at this year's International Co-operative Alliance Research Conference! Jason will be presenting a working paper entitled "Coordinating Intermediaries in Alternative Food Systems : Comparing Cooperative Food Hubs to Other Modes of Governance and Ownership". This work is part of a larger project on food hubs supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
This year's ICA-CCR conference will be held at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin at the end of August. Jason is also a PhD Candidate in the Division of Applied Social Sciences- University of Missouri's Agribusiness and Organizational Economics program. Keep an eye out for a draft of Jason's paper which we'll post once the conference has published its proceedings!

The McQuinn Center congratulates our Research Associate Emma Boase on the successful defense of her thesis in the Division of Applied Social Sciences- University of Missouri, thus marking the completion of the requirements for the Master of Science in Agricultural and Applied Economics.
Ms. Boase's thesis is titled “Taste Biases: Confounding Sensory and Label Evaluations for Yogurt”. The research utilized laboratory methods under experimental economics to investigate consumer behaviors, including Willingness to Pay, related to the use of "Greek" and "Organic" labels in dairy products. It also formulated psychographic profiles of consumers to identify market segments.
The committee evaluating Ms. Boase's work was chaired by the McQuinn Center's Director and Endowed Chair, Dr. Randall Westgren. Research related to the thesis project was supported financially under the McQuinn Endowment for Entrepreneurial Leadership.

The McQuinn Center is proud to congratulate our research associate, EmmaBoase, and her teammates from DASS on their placement at the FDRS Case Study Competition!
Another of our research associates, Jason Entsminger , is also in Washington, D.C. where he is attending the annual meetings of the Food Distribution Research Society after spending last week in the USDA's data lab working on research he's doing on organizational taxonomics.

Our Research Associate Entsminger is in Europe this week, where he was recently attending a conference in the Nwtherlands presenting some of our Center's work and will soon be in Barcelona to meet with colleagues.

Effective July 1, our division welcomed Annette Kendall as a senior research associate in our division! In this role, she’ll specialize in management and entrepreneurship, teach the introductory entrepreneurship course and advise our student chapter of the National Agri-Marketing Association. Her programmatic area aligns with the McQuinn Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership.
