A BIG DAY FOR ADAIR COUNTY JAG!

Today, Adair County JAG was blessed with a generous donation of new laptops from the Kentucky Colonels! We were honored to welcome Grant Mulligan, Employment Manager of JAG Kentucky, who brought the laptops to us today. We are also proud to have two members of our own district staff (Jason Rector and Grayson Bragg) who are part of this wonderful organization.

Our students took ownership of today’s presentation by creating the agenda and having six students share testimonies about why these laptops were so desperately needed, along with messages of gratitude for this generous gift.

But there’s a bigger story behind these laptops…

We applied for a grant and were denied. We tried again and received another no. We reached out for help through JAG administration, and Mr. Mulligan continued looking for opportunities. Another door closed. But he didn’t give up. He reached out to the Kentucky Colonels, and this time, the answer was YES!

And THAT is one of the most important lessons I hope my students take away from this experience:

✨ Never be afraid to ask.
✨ If you hear no, don’t give up. Keep going!
✨ Sometimes you have to adjust your approach and look for another door to open.
✨ And when someone says YES, show your gratitude and take care of what you’ve been given.

Today was about so much more than new technology. It was about persistence, advocacy, opportunity, and the power of people who believe in our young people.

Our students are our future, and today was another reminder of what can happen when we keep asking, keep believing, and keep opening doors for them. 💙

My JAG students and I are in charge of concessions tonight at the football game. They have done a great job so far! Come see us and help them with this experience (a first for all of them).

The good news just keeps coming! 🥹❤️

One of my seniors who started JAG last year as a junior just got accepted to two colleges!

Jolene walked through my classroom door last year ready to walk right back out. JAG didn’t seem like it would be her cup of tea. You see, JAG is for everyone: high grades or low grades, great attendance or struggling attendance, quiet or outgoing, highly motivated or still trying to find their motivation. Sometimes the student who works hard feels out of place around someone who doesn’t care much about school, while the student who struggles to find their motivation may feel just as uncomfortable around someone who is full of energy and confidence. But that’s one of the things I love most about JAG- it brings all of these different students together and gives them a place to belong, grow, and learn from one another. Her best friend convinced her to stay, and she ended up staying the whole year instead of just the semester.

Along the way, Jolene learned to stay open-minded and give things a chance. She made friends, competed for me, stepped outside her comfort zone, and even traveled to Frankfort to meet with state representatives.

And now… she’s been accepted to not one but two colleges. 🥹

This is why I love what I do. Sometimes the biggest growth starts with simply choosing to stay.

So proud of you, Jolene Nuszbaum! Keep saying YES to the opportunities that come your way. I have a feeling there are some pretty amazing things ahead for you. ❤️

Sometimes, a teacher just needs one little text to remind her why she does what she does. 🥹💙
This came from one of my former JAG students who is now in her second week of college:

“I did it.”

Her professor gave the class an assignment to write a speech, but they had the option to actually present it. She didn’t have to give the speech. She could have taken the easy way out. But she didn’t. She stood up and did it.
And do you know what makes me even prouder? She was the first and only student who volunteered to give her speech. 👏🏼
That is courage. That is confidence. That is growth.
I’m so incredibly proud of her. Not just because she gave a speech, but because she chose to step outside of her comfort zone and prove to herself that she could do something she was probably nervous to do.
This is what JAG is all about. We celebrate the big accomplishments, but sometimes the biggest victories are those little moments when a student realizes:
“I can do this.”

I just got back from the JAG Summer Conference, and I’m thankful to bring this award back to ACHS JAG. ❤️

JAG Kentucky does an incredible job of challenging us to grow. Throughout the school year, we set goals, track our progress, and work hard every day to meet them. But something I love most is that they never let us forget our biggest job- loving our students, believing in them, and helping them see what’s possible for their future.

This award belongs to our JAG students. They bought into the program, showed up, worked hard, and helped make this possible. I’m also thankful for our supportive staff and administration at ACHS who encourage our students and our program every step of the way.

After a wonderful summer break, I’m excited to get back to the classroom. I have new ideas, fresh plans, and can’t wait to continue reminding our students that there is something waiting for them after high school. Whether that’s college, a career, the military, or another path, I want them to know they have a purpose- and that we should always strive to leave things better than we found them.

Here’s to another great year! 💙

This achievement represents more than numbers—it represents students graduating, continuing their education, entering the workforce, and building successful futures.
