What an unforgettable day at Tennessee Titans Training Camp!

A group of KDS students joined Special Olympics Tennessee athletes for an up-close look at practice, opportunities to meet players, and plenty of autographs. Our students had an incredible time taking in the action and making memories together.

My Day at the Fair is almost here!

This Friday, September 4, individuals with disabilities of all ages and their families are invited to enjoy a free morning at the Maury County Fair.

The fun begins at 8:30 a.m. and continues until shortly after noon. Whether this is your first My Day at the Fair or it has become a favorite tradition, we hope you will join us for a morning filled with fun, community, and wonderful memories.

Happy National Dog Day!

For more than 20 years, Beth Clark has shared the love, comfort, and companionship of her dogs with KDS students. Today, that tradition continues with Dash and River, who are familiar and much-loved faces around campus.

As registered Pet Partners therapy teams, Beth, Dash, and River spend time with students in classrooms and residential homes, bringing plenty of smiles, encouragement, and, of course, tail wags.

Beth also leads AKC Canine Clubs on campus, where students learn about dog safety, responsible ownership, training, and the many amazing things dogs can do. Some students have even worked alongside Beth to train Dash and River for AKC Lure Coursing and have helped at local Fast CAT competitions.

Over the years, many dogs have been part of Beth’s visits to KDS, but the purpose has remained the same: creating meaningful connections between our students and some very special four-legged friends.

On National Dog Day, we are especially thankful for Beth and for more than two decades of dogs who have brought a little extra happiness to KDS.

Tennessee has lost one of its brightest lights.

Dolly Parton brought joy to generations through her music, kindness, generosity, and unmistakable love for her home state. Her legacy has also touched KDS in small but meaningful ways. Our students have enjoyed visits to Dollywood, and some simply love listening to her music.

We join people across Tennessee and around the world in remembering Dolly and celebrating a life that brought so much happiness to so many.

Global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old.

Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000).

A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.

At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging or by leaving a message at www.dollyparton.com

On August 14, KDS student Lucian and Recreation Director Shannon Neff joined Maury County Fair & Exposition Board President Randy Zeigler on Front Porch Happenings with Delk Kennedy. The interview aired live on WKOM 101.7 FM and highlighted one of our community’s most meaningful traditions.

For more than 15 years, My Day at the Fair has provided a free morning at the fair for individuals with disabilities and their families. Guests of all ages are welcome!

Tanner Bryant, our Behavior Wellness Coordinator, began his KDS journey 23 years ago today!

Unfortunately, no one was there to capture Tanner’s first day, so we used AI to help us imagine just how young he must have been.

During the past 23 years, Tanner has walked alongside countless KDS students and become an important part of their stories. His passion, patience, steady leadership, and genuine care have made a lasting impact on our students, their families, and generations of KDS staff.

It is difficult to overstate what Tanner has meant to KDS. He has spent more than two decades challenging, empowering, and loving those around him, and our school is stronger because of his service.

Thank you, Tanner, for 23 remarkable years. With any luck, we’ll keep you doing this till you’re 90!

The bush outside our Business Office recently gained a few new residents!

Our campus is home to all kinds of wildlife, and our students are always excited to spot one of our animal neighbors. This robin family quickly drew plenty of attention, so we had to gently remind our students, and a few curious staff members, to admire them from a safe distance and give the parents room to care for their little ones.

There is always something new to discover at KDS!

My Day at the Fair is a special tradition for many of our students, and now there is another way to support its mission!

The 2nd Annual My Day 5K and 1-Mile Trot will be held Saturday, September 5, at Maury County Park. The event honors William “Will” Spiess, who never met a stranger and believed everyone deserved a friend.

Funds raised will benefit The King’s Daughters’ School, Maury County Special Olympics, and Best Buddies of Tennessee.

The 5K begins at 8:00 a.m., followed by the 1-Mile Trot at 9:00 a.m. Register by August 20 to receive a race T-shirt!
