PTK Alpha Eta Kappa Chapter

Almost exactly a year ago, we had our Spring 2025 Induction Ceremony.

We were able to celebrate this time with most of our team before they graduated, and are truly grateful for the contributions and hard work they put into the chapter to make it as great as it is. Even though their chapter with the MTC has ended, they will always walk their path with PTK supporting them with every step.

The bittersweet ceremony was highlighted with a special thanks to our then advisor and Regional Coordinator, Sylvia Hayes. She was a monumental presence and inspiration in all of our journeys, always being our cheerleader behind the curtains and pushing us to become the best versions of ourselves.

We hope our inductees for Spring 2025 were able to feel the love and appreciation within our Alpha Eta Kappa family, and took those values with them on the rest of their experience with PTK.

While we get ready to present to you our latest Induction Ceremony, we wanted to walk you down memory lane and show you some of our favorite memories from the 2024-2025 school year.

We did our last Fall Induction on November 21st, 2024, along with Psi Beta, the National Honor Society in Psychology. This ceremony was full of laughter, joy and happiness as the chapter prepared in advanced for the ceremony and celebration afterwards. We are always happy to see so many new faces at our inductions, and as always, we wish the best to our new PTK inductees and Psi Beta’s. We hope that, wherever you are, you continue to carry the spirit of your honor societies and wish you the best for the rest of your journey ahead!

Alpha Eta Kappa at Catalyst, 2026! ⚓️⛵️

The Alpha Eta Kappa chapter attended the 2026 Carolinas Regional Conference at South Piedmont Community College (Monroe, NC) on March 6-8.

During this conference the chapter was awarded multiple times for their College Project and Honors In Action Project, as well as 2 members receiving the Distinguished Chapter Officer award and the overall chapter receiving the Distinguished Chapter Officer Team award.

We are very proud of all of the hard work this year’s officers have put into continuing the excellence of the chapter and representing the college!

The 2025 PTK Carolina Regional Leadership Conference was held on October 10-12 at Midlands Technical College, and of course, the Alpha ETA Kappa chapter was part of the hosting chapter team! 💙

Besides the multiple interactive and informative workshops, the college fair, lip-sync battle, and our keynote speaker presentation, one of the other highlights of the conference is the election of new Regional Officers. We had a total of 3 candidates for the 3 open positions, and we got to know them through the Caucus and Political Rally. One of the candidates comes from our very own chapter: Sofia Aranzazu Rios, running for VP of Public Relations! ✨ She is set to follow the steps of our past ROs, Kaley Barklage and James Liles, from the Alpha Eta Kappa chapter as well.

We are very proud to have been able to witness so many members from our chapter step up into the roles of Regional Officers, and are forever grateful to have witness their journeys. We wish them the very best luck on the rest of their careers, and look forward to continuing supporting them 🧡

Day 2 of Catalyst 2025 was surely full of joy and bittersweet happiness!

During last Friday we had the chance to hear from amazing people, starting off strong with our President and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner! She encouraged us to stay rightly informed and to continue pursuing knowledge even during different and uncertain times.

Later we had one of our wonderful keynote speakers, Laurie Hernandez, the wonderful retired artistic gymnast, advocate for mental health and children’s rights, UNICEF Ambassador, and previous “Dancing with the Stars” winner. The list of her accomplishments can go on, but during her time on stage she walked us through her life, through the meaningful lessons she had learned, and inspired us to advocate for ourselves. She’s truly a role model for Latina and Black girls, and her youthful and vibrant personality made her relatable and unique. Getting the chance to meet her in person and getting her book “”I Got This: To Gold and Beyond” was an unforgettable experience.

The last of last Friday’s keynote speakers was the one and only Steve Burns, from the nostalgic children’s show “Blue’s Clues”. He spoke at length about his time on the show and subsequent battle with mental health, a stark difference from his curious and outgoing televised character. We had the chance to meet the man behind the green shirt, and revive many childhood memories. Many of us could not help but get teary as the legend unfolded in front of us and became another like us. The chance of also meeting him in person was one of out biggest highlights of the weekend.

Through out the whole weekend we also learned more about PTK’s most recent initiative, which focuses on supporting local animal shelters through a variety of community service projects. Adorable pups were seen throughout the conference in minicars zooming around and delighting us with their cuteness.

Today was Day 1 of Catalyst 2025 at Kansas City, MO!

Catalyst is the yearly national PTK convention, where every chapter and their members across the country come together to learn and engage.

The chapter arrived to the convention in the morning after a very smooth flight, attended multiple educational forums, and opened the rest of the amazing weekend at the First General Session! The energy and enthusiasm from every state and region filled the room!

The Alpha Eta Kappa chapter attended the 2025 Carolinas Regional Convention last weekend, March 6th-9th.

This convention was full of great accomplishments and experiences for the chapter. Many awards were won thanks to the work of our wonderful members, new skills were learn during the workshops, friendships and connections were made throughout the entire weekend, and much fun was had as well.

We are also very happy to have been able to provide such an amazing experience and opportunity to our new chapter officers Fredd Brisbon-Harris and Shaw Howell, and to have our incredible previous member/regional officer Angela Jackson back as an advisor.

Every single member who attended this convention has left with new knowledge and motivation to continue improving and innovating our chapter and college. We look forward to using everything learned for future projects and to strengthen the relationship with our community.

On October 23rd, the Alpha Eta Kappa chapter hosted our 2024 Fall Fundraiser called Mav’s Olympics, in honor of our college’s mascot Mav the Maverick!

During this event students got to play multiple different games to score points and win prizes, and enter raffles!

We all had a lot of fun de-stressing from classes and having a good time!

All funds raised during the event help our chapter with future events and activities.
