๐Ÿ“š WHY PEACE OF MIND? ๐Ÿ’›

"A manโ€™s mind, stretched by new ideas, may never return to its original dimensions."โ€” Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.

Thatโ€™s the beauty of learning.

At Peace of Mind, we believe education is about more than grades, test scores, or checking boxes. Itโ€™s about stretching minds, challenging students to think differently, ask better questions, and see themselves as capable of more than they realized.

Sometimes that stretch looks like mastering a difficult concept.
Sometimes it looks like finding confidence after struggle.

And sometimes itโ€™s simply realizing that learning can feel safe, personal, and even enjoyable.

When students are supported by educators who truly know them, learning becomes bigger than academics.

It changes how they see themselves and what they believe is possible. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ’œ Why Peace of Mind? ๐Ÿ’œ

There is something pretty special about being holding a book you wrote yourself.๐Ÿ“–And that smile says everything. ๐Ÿ’š

At Peace of Mind, Ms. Carrington isn't simply teaching reading and writing. She's helping a young learner discover that his ideas matter, his words have meaning, and he is capable of creating something all his own.

โœ๏ธ He had an idea.
๐Ÿง  He put his thoughts into words.
๐ŸŽจ He made those words his own.
๐Ÿ“– And now he's an author holding his very own book.

These are the moments we love most because learning at this age should feel exciting. It should be filled with creativity, conversation, encouragement, laughter, and plenty of opportunities to proudly say:

โ€œLook what I did!โ€๐Ÿฅฐ

๐Ÿ’œ Why Peace of Mind?

Because sometimes the most important thing a teacher can give a child isn't another worksheet.

It's the confidence to believe, โ€œI can.โ€

And this precious little author certainly did. ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’šโœจ

๐ŸŒˆ Learning looks different here. We like it that way.

Meet Ms. Jude Barrineau ๐Ÿ’›
Peace of Mind is incredibly proud to have Ms. Jude as part of our team, bringing with her an amazing 40 years of experience in education.
Jude works with our elementary and middle school students across all subject areas, with particular strength in math through Algebra. Her depth of experience, calm presence, and ability to meet students where they are make her an incredible support for so many families.
Jude is a graduate of the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and earned her Master of Education from Francis Marion University, with endorsements in Special Education, Gifted and Talented, and Visual Impairment. She also earned National Board Certification in Middle Level Generalist in both 2001 and 2013.
Over the course of her career, Jude has taught in multiple school districts and settings, serving students in general education, special education, resource, and self-contained classrooms. From elementary classrooms to middle school math and Pre-Algebra, her experience is broad, deep, and incredibly valuable.
And for a fun full-circle momentโ€”Ms. Jude and Ms. Kristie first worked together years ago at Meadowfield Elementary, alongside Ms. Heather and Ms. Kim Brabham. It feels extra special to have those paths cross again here at Peace of Mind.

๐Ÿ’œ Why Peace of Mind? ๐Ÿ’œ

Who says test prep has to be miserable? ๐Ÿ“šโœ๏ธ

At Peace of Mind, we know preparing for the SAT, ACT, EOC, or another big test requires focus, practice, and hard work. But hard work and fun are not opposites.

With the right teacher, learning and laughing can happen at the very same table. ๐Ÿ’œ

Our teachers know how to break difficult concepts into manageable pieces, teach strategies that actually make sense, celebrate progress, and help students realize that they are more capable than they thought.

๐Ÿง  Learn a new strategy.
โœ๏ธ Practice it together.
๐Ÿ’ก Figure out why you made a mistake.
๐Ÿ‘ Celebrate when it finally clicks.
๐ŸŽฏ Try it again with a little more confidence.

That is what good test prep can look like.

Because students learn better when they are comfortable enough to ask questions, make mistakes, and keep trying. And sometimes a little laughter is exactly what takes the pressure out of something that has felt overwhelming.

๐ŸŒˆ Learning looks different here. We like it that way.

๐Ÿ’š At Peace of Mind, relationships come first.

Before a student is willing to struggle through a difficult math problem, read something that feels too hard, ask for help, admit theyโ€™re confused, or try again after failing, they need to know something important.

They need to know the person beside them is on their side. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐ŸŒฟ We believe the best teachers do more than manage behavior and get students to complete assignments. They take the time to know their students.

They notice when something feels off.
๐Ÿ’ฌ They listen.
๐Ÿ˜‚ They laugh with them.
๐Ÿ‘ They celebrate the small victories.
๐Ÿง  They understand that behavior is communication.
๐Ÿ’œ And they build the trust that makes real learning possible.

That doesnโ€™t mean we donโ€™t have expectations. We absolutely do. But our students are far more likely to rise to those expectations when they feel known, respected, safe, and connected.

โœจ A child who trusts a teacher is more willing to take a risk.

โœจ A child who feels understood is more willing to accept help.

โœจ A child who knows someone believes in them begins to believe in themselves.

๐ŸŒˆ Learning looks different here. We like it that way.

๐Ÿ’› WHY PEACE OF MIND? ๐Ÿพ

At Peace of Mind and Sunnyside, learning doesnโ€™t only happen through books.

Sometimes it happens in the quiet moments when a child sits beside a dog, feels safe enough to slow down, and learns what it means to care for something beyond themselves.

Animals teach patience.

They teach gentleness.

They teach empathy.

And for many children, they provide comfort, connection, and a sense of calm that opens the door to learning in ways words sometimes cannot.

We believe education is about growing the whole child, not just academically, but emotionally too.

Sometimes the best lessons have four legs. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿถ

โ˜€๏ธ SATURDAY STAFF SPOTLIGHT โ˜€๏ธ
Meet Mr. Rip Blackstone ๐Ÿ’›
In 2023, Rip โ€œCoachโ€ Blackstone joined the Peace of Mind educational team, and we have been incredibly grateful for the knowledge, experience, and wisdom he brings to our students.
Rip works with our high school and post-secondary students in the areas of math, accounting, economics, and SAT/ACT/AP test prep, offering a level of expertise that is truly hard to match.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Rip earned his B.S. in Accounting before going on to complete his J.D. at USC Law School and practicing law in Columbia for nine years. In 1991, he began his teaching career at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, where he taught all levels of mathematics from fifth grade through Multivariable Calculus.
One of the highlights of Ripโ€™s career came in 2016 when he was named SCISA High School Teacher of the Yearโ€”an honor that reflects the incredible impact he has had on students over the years.
What makes Rip so special is not just his depth of knowledge, but the way he teaches students to think, problem-solve, and build confidence in challenging subjects. His patience, intelligence, and ability to connect with students make him such a valuable part of Peace of Mind.

"The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity." โ€” Dorothy Parker

At Peace of Mind and Sunnyside, curiosity is one of the things we protect most.

We believe some of the best learning happens when students are free to wonder, ask questions, look closer, and explore together.

Not because they have to, but because they want to.

Thatโ€™s one of the beautiful things about multi-age learning. Older students model curiosity for younger ones, younger students bring fresh wonder to the room, and together they create a learning environment where questions are valued and discovery feels natural.

Sometimes learning starts with simply leaning in, looking closely, and wondering why.

And those moments? They matter more than we realize. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ โœจ

๐Ÿ“š WHY PEACE OF MIND? ๐Ÿ’›

"Education is the best friend. An educated person is respected everywhere. Education beats beauty and youth." โ€” Chanakya

At Peace of Mind, we believe education is one of the most lasting gifts a person can carry.

Long after childhood, long after grades, and long after the seasons of growing up, education remains.

It shapes how students think, how they solve problems, how they communicate, and how they move through the world.

Beauty fades. Youth passes. But knowledge, confidence, and wisdom stay.

Thatโ€™s why the work we do matters so much.

We are not just helping students get through school; we are helping them build the tools, habits, and confidence they will carry for a lifetime. ๐Ÿ’›

Meet Ms. Lisa Butler ๐Ÿ’›

Ms. Lisa brings something incredibly special to Peace of Mind: experience, deep knowledge, a diverse background, and a heart for students that is hard to put into words.

As an educator, Lisa has a gift for seeing the whole child. She understands that learning is never one-size-fits-all and has an incredible ability to meet students where they are while helping them move forward with confidence.

Lisa teaches students of all ages and abilities with specialties in different learning styles as well as with written expression and support with writing at all levels.

What makes Lisa such an asset to our programs is not just her skill in the classroom, but her flexibility, her calm presence, and her commitment to doing what is best for kids. She leads with both wisdom and warmth, creating spaces where students feel safe, supported, and capable.

Whether she is guiding students academically, helping problem-solve challenges, or simply showing up with consistency and care, Lisa is the kind of educator every child deserves to have in their corner.

We are so grateful for the knowledge, heart, and leadership she brings to our team.
