Last night Columbia State, TCAT, and Hoar Construction hosted the ribbon cutting and Open House for the new Southern Regional Technology Center. The SRTC Building is where our Veterinary Technology Program (and other health science majors) is now housed! We enjoyed getting to show off our new operating room, treatment area, and learnings spaces to the community. If you missed the open house but still want a chance to see the space, make sure and reach out to program personnel. We would love for all alumni and clinical affiliates to get a chance to tour and experience all this new building has to offer!

We had a busy day yesterday at New Student Orientation! We welcomed the Class of 2028 with some help from of Peer Mentors in our 2027 Class. The students were able to be a part of a new tradition at Columbia State, where they “lock in” their commitment to graduate. We can’t wait for classes to begin on Monday! See you all soon. Hiring Opportunity!

All Animals Veterinary Hospital was established in 1992. Since that time we have been treating large animals, small animals, and most exotics in the greater Dickson area. Dr. Ellie Goan is owner of this 2 hospital, 4 doctor practice. All Animals Veterinary Hospital (AAVH) has grown considerably since opening its doors in 1992. White Bluff Animal Clinic (WBAC) was opened in 2001 to better serve the community.

We are located 30 miles west of Nashville in Dickson, TN (AAVH) and in White Bluff, TN (WBAC). We have fully equipped surgical suites, digital radiography, dental radiography, endoscopy, ultrasonography, in-house blood capabilities, large animal facilities, and a fully equipped vet truck for house/farm calls.

We are looking to hire an experienced Veterinary Assistant or a Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician to join our progressive predominantly small animal practice. We have a very competitive benefits package including health insurance, 36 hours for full time with a 4-day workweek and closed on the weekends, CE allowance, and more.

Summer semester has officially ended for the Class of 2027! It was a very busy semester, but there was a lot of excitement along the way. Our students learned new skills, celebrated birthdays, and bonded with each other during the long days.

Chelsea from Boehringer Ingelheim is back for another lunch and learn! Today we had a “Tick Talk” discussing the ticks commonly found in Tennessee and what diseases they can carry. While this information is important for our cats and dogs, this is important for human health too!

Introducing our July Student of the Month: Class of 2026 Treasurer Candace Tidwell

“My name is Candace Tidwell, and I'm a second-year Veterinary Technology student at Columbia State. At home, I have two shepherd mix girls, Jasper and Winnie. They're both sweet, incredibly smart, and well-trained... despite occasionally letting their anxiety convince them the Amazon driver is a national emergency. They've taught me just as much about patience and compassion as any classroom ever could. Like many people drawn to this profession, I love animals, but I also have a deep appreciation for the people who love them. I love being able to bridge the gap between veterinary medicine and pet owners by helping them understand what their pets need and why. Throughout the program, I've especially enjoyed learning more about surgery, and I'm excited to hopefully complete some of my clinical rotations in an ER setting (because apparently, I enjoy controlled chaos). After graduation, I plan to take a much-needed trip with my dogs before beginning my career in emergency medicine. While the ER is where I currently see myself, I'm excited to continue learning and discover the other areas of veterinary medicine that may interest me along the way.
My advice to anyone considering this program is simple: take the leap and apply. It will challenge you, but it will also give you unforgettable experiences and the opportunity to truly make a difference. I'm incredibly grateful for this program, our faculty, and especially my classmates, who have made this journey so much more meaningful. We truly support and encourage each other through the challenges, celebrations, late nights, and everything in between. Being surrounded by people who are just as passionate and dedicated has helped shape me into the future licensed veterinary technician I aspire to become.”
