New data on South Carolina’s administrator workforce highlight the strength of internal leadership pipelines.
In 2024–25, 69% of newly hired administrators transitioned from within the state educator workforce—and nearly 75% of those hires remained within their same district.
These trends suggest that intentional mentoring and internal promotion practices may support stronger, more stable leadership pipelines.

Personnel administrators, encourage exiting teachers in your district to complete the 2026 SC Teacher Exit Survey by June 19.
Survey responses help your district better understand the working conditions influencing teachers’ decisions to leave—and support stronger retention efforts statewide.
Districts with 3+ participants receive district-specific results. More participation = stronger data and more actionable insights.

Data from 2024–25 suggest a complementary pattern in administrator recruitment: those entering from outside the state bring more prior experience, while those advancing from within are younger—indicating greater potential for long-term retention.
A balanced approach may strengthen both immediate capacity and pipeline sustainability.
