🇺🇸📚 Freedom, Stories, and Why They Matter
As we come off the Fourth of July weekend, a time spent celebrating freedom, independence, and the voices that shaped our country, it feels like the perfect time to talk about one of the most powerful tools in education: literature.
At Sunnyside Academy, reading is never just about “getting through a book.”
Through group novel studies, students learn to ask questions, think critically, discuss hard topics, and see the world through perspectives different from their own.
Books create opportunities for students to explore:
✨ Courage
✨ Justice
✨ Freedom
✨ Human rights
✨ History
✨ Empathy
This year alone, our students worked through more than a dozen novels together, sitting around tables, asking big questions, disagreeing respectfully, thinking critically, and learning how to think deeply.
In a world where information moves fast, we believe slowing down with a book, a discussion, and a thoughtful group of peers matters more than ever.
Because sometimes the most important education lessons aren’t found in worksheets or homework, rather, they’re found in stories and discussions.
📖 At Sunnyside, literature isn’t extra. It’s part of the foundation.
