Update: it’s still down at September 16 because our volunteer webmaster hasn’t been able to work on the problem very much.

The Alumni Database has been down since July 1st, after a server upgrade. We’re working on the problem but it’s taking longer than expected. Will post here again when it’s back up.

We recently lost one of our older alumni in the Class of 1945. Always interesting to read about the lives of older alumni & how far their CC education took them in life:

Louise Althere Haines, 96, of Taneytown [Maryland], died Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Lorien Taneytown. Louise was born on December 14, 1927 in Columbia City Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Vern and Stella Sheckler.

She was the devoted wife of Fern Haines who passed away in November of 2022. They were married for 75 years.

Louise and her husband, Fern, were dedicated farmers in Carroll County all their married life. She served her community first as President of Harney Fireman's Association Ladies Auxiliary and also the President of Carroll County Fireman's Association's Ladies Auxiliary. Louise then moved her membership to the Taneytown Fireman's Association's Ladies Auxiliary where she served as President for many years.

She married Fern at Keysville Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for several years. Louise enjoyed spending time with her family and have them join her at the dinner table. She was happy with her dogs, especially her Boston Terrors, as well as caring for the kitties at the home farm. Sitting on the front porch in her rocking chair was one of her favorite pastimes. She loved her flowers and listening to her music.

Surviving are her children, Eleanor Slaback and husband Les of Gaithersburg, MD, Richard Haines and wife Diana of Taneytown, Doris Kiser and husband Terry, of Keymar, James Haines and wife Shirley, of Taneytown and Glenn Haines and wife Karen of Taneytown. She had 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, sister Pauline Hill and brother George Sheckler and a granddaughter, Kelly Haines Hale.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 20th, at Keysville Lutheran Church, 7301 Keysville Road, Keymar, MD with Reverend Cathy Feil officiating. Burial will follow the service at Keysville Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Taneytown Fire Company, 39 E Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD 21787 or Keysville Lutheran Church, 7301 Keysville Road, Keymar, MD 21757.
