🌟 Staff Spotlight: Meet Ms. Sandra Colix! 🌟

We’re excited to highlight Sandra Colix, one of our Head Start Teachers! 💙💛

Sandra has been working in early childhood education since 2012 and has been part of the San Salvador Preschool team since 2021. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Adolescent Development.

What Sandra enjoys most about her work is creating a safe, welcoming classroom where children can learn, explore, and grow. She loves being part of their first school experience and supporting their confidence, friendships, development, and educational goals along the way.

Outside of the classroom, Sandra enjoys spending time with her husband of 24 years and their three children. Her family also includes two leopard geckos, a ball python, and a cat! 🦎🐍🐱 She enjoys nature, the beach, gardening, baking, reading, and spending time with family.

Yesterday, our students enjoyed a story all about germs and staying healthy! We read sick Simon. Through reading and classroom discussion, they practiced how to properly cover their coughs and sneezes and learned simple ways to help keep germs from spreading. 🤧💪

🌟 Introducing Our 2026–2027 Staff Spotlight Series! 🌟

Throughout the school year, we’ll be highlighting the incredible people who make our CJUSD Early Education Programs such a special place for children and families. 💙💛

And who better to kick off our very first Staff Spotlight than our Director of Child Development, Melissa! 🎉

🎓 Meet Melissa
Melissa brings a wealth of education and experience to our program, including an AA in Child Development, BS in Business Management, Master’s in Business Administration, and a Program Director Permit. She is also a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Practitioner.

❤️ What She Loves About Her Work
For Melissa, one of the most rewarding parts of her role is watching children learn and grow during their preschool years. She loves getting to know our families and being part of their child’s educational journey, while also mentoring and supporting the staff who make it all possible.

🏎️ Beyond the Office
Melissa and her husband, Dale, have three children—Joshua, Mackynzie, and Dylan—and two pets, Hazel and Duvalina. She is also a HUGE Ford Mustang fan! One of her favorite experiences was attending the Ford Performance Driving School with her husband and getting behind the wheel of a Mustang at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. 🏁

📣 Making an Impact Beyond CJUSD
Melissa is passionate about education advocacy and has taken that passion to both Sacramento and Washington, D.C. She has also recently begun coaching other educational leaders.

We’re excited to begin our Staff Spotlight series by introducing the leader behind our program! Thank you, Melissa, for your dedication to our children, families, and staff. 💙💛
