We are SO proud of (former) Colstrip, Montana FCCLA member—Terron Torix! He has participated in FCCLA for three years at CHS and one year in Plentywood. He also earned the “MT FCCLA Diehard Member Award” his senior year. During Terron’s tenure at CHS, he has been voted Chapter President for three terms — his term will end when officers for the new school year are elected in the fall.

Terron will become a FCS and Business Teacher as he attends Idaho State University. We are so glad he chose to . Best of luck in your future, Terron! Keep being a rockstar!

Welcome to future educator, Terron Torix! Terron will be starting his first year at ISU this fall and is majoring in secondary education with an emphasis in family and consumer sciences and business education.

Education is in Terron's blood. Terron's dad is the former principal of Colstrip High School and current superintendent of the Laurel, Montana School District, while his mom is an elementary teacher at Canyon Creek School in Billings, Montana. Terron is looking forward to becoming a 2nd generation educator and said, "I am most excited to be able to empower students and teach real world skills to future leaders."

Terron chose ISU because of the professors he connected with through the Business Professionals of America organization. As he said, "They have gone above and beyond to make sure I have had the best experience at Idaho State!"

With school starting soon, here are 5 reasons to enroll your children in a Family and Consumer Sciences education class and FCCLA

1. Adulting 101 has been our thing since 1945. We literally founded and created the classes that teach the life skills you see people posting about they wish they had learned in high school. They obviously didn’t take a Family and Consumer Sciences course.

2. All students (city, rural, shy, outgoing, athletic and musical) are encouraged to join.

3. There aren’t score boards or rankings but members are still part of a team. FCCLA has almost 40 competitive event contests including STAR Events, Skill Demonstration Events, and Knowledge Bowl. From fashion construction to culinary arts or prepared public speaking and hospitality, tourism, and recreation, there is one event your child will love and excel doing.

4. FCCLA is the Ultimate Leadership Experience. Through the organization, your child will learn public speaking skills, organization, time management, goal setting, and develop a passion for working with others and to make their communities a better place.

5. FCCLA is building homes for America’s future. Our members are learning to create homes and communities that focus on truth and love and security and faith. These skills of strengthening their family unit will set them apart and help us create a brighter future for our nation and the world.

TEACHER SEARCH: As of July 1, Colstrip Public Schools have several certified openings and may not be able to fill them with "licensed" instructors; therefore, Colstrip Public School District is reaching out to individuals that can be hired through emergency authorization process outlined in the Administrative Rules of Montana: ARM 10.57.107 for the 2022-2023 School Year.

I have loved my time in FCCLA and am excited to attend Idaho State University starting on June 13th for my journey to become a Family & Consumer Sciences educator and Business teacher.
