Why does my child have to re-read something multiple times before they get it?

Poor reading comprehension is often rooted in one of several key things (and it's not about effort, laziness, or interest)...

📘It could be a decoding issue. They spend so much mental effort just figuring out the words that they don't have any capacity left for interpretation.

👀It could be a visualization issue. They read robotically (and maybe even fluently), but they can't envision what they're reading to store it in memory.

🧠It could be a cognitive load issue. Their brain is used to fast changes, so asking the brain to sustain focus on one thing is a lot to handle.
