Wound packing is preferred over applying a tourniquet in specific situations.

- If a person has bleeding from the neck, shoulder, or groin, wound packing with gauze then apply manual direct pressure is the appropriate method. In these areas, applying a tourniquet will not be effective or could cause further complications.
- For bleeding in the arms or legs that does not stop with manual direct pressure, a tourniquet should be applied to control the bleeding.

Understanding when to use each method can be critical in managing Life-Threatening Bleeding effectively.

🌐 Three levels of bleeding control are crucial for effective response: manual direct pressure, wound packing, and tourniquet application.

In cases where bright red blood is observed, especially if it is spurting, it indicates arterial bleeding. Immediate control is essential, as significant blood loss may have already occurred.

In our Stop Life-Threatening Bleeding class, we teach participants the three levels of bleeding control and the appropriate actions to take at each stage.

The training provided by The Health and Safety Institute is well-structured and user-friendly. With 20 years of experience in the Army and 15 years in Law Enforcement, I have trained soldiers and police officers in fitness, self-defense, and first aid. This background has allowed me to develop effective people skills, enabling me to instruct in a way that is easy to understand and remember.
