Dog bites are one of the most common injuries involving children, but many incidents can be prevented through education, supervision, and safe interactions with pets.

Help keep children safe by reminding them to:
Always ask permission before petting a dog
Never disturb a dog while it's eating or sleeping
Give dogs space when they seem scared or nervous
Let a dog approach you first

Together, we can help children build positive, safe relationships with the animals they love!

This week’s Site Partner Spotlight highlights a partnership that has been making a difference for nearly 30 years.

For almost three decades, the Wasson Early Learning Center has partnered with CPCD to help provide children with a strong foundation for learning and growth. This year, through this valued collaboration, 12 children received services and support each day in a nurturing environment designed to help young learners thrive.

Every partnership plays an important role in expanding access to high-quality early childhood education, and we’re grateful for the shared commitment to supporting children and families in our community.

For almost 40 years, CPCD and Harrison School District 2 have partnered together to provide high-quality early childhood education to families across Colorado Springs. Through this longstanding collaboration, CPCD now serves more than 500 students in classrooms located throughout District 2, helping children build the skills and confidence they need for lifelong success.

Partnerships like this make it possible to expand opportunities for children and create stronger, more connected communities.

Last week, we celebrated 8 incredible CPCD staff members who graduated with their Coaching Credential from Pikes Peak State College! This year marked the very first cohort of this program at Pikes Peak State College, making this achievement even more meaningful.

Earning this credential required our staff to serve as mentors, dedicating 30 hours to working closely with existing staff and practicum students through learning, modeling, guidance, and coaching. Their commitment reflects the passion they bring not only to the children and families we serve, but also to supporting and uplifting one another.

At CPCD, growth never stops. We are proud to celebrate these team members for investing in their own development and helping strengthen the next generation of early childhood professionals.

Congratulations to all of the graduates!

Last week, leaders from CPCD attended the National Head Start Association Conference and Expo in Minneapolis, joining thousands of early childhood professionals, partners, and advocates from across the country to learn, collaborate, and strengthen the future of Head Start.

We were proud to support National Head Start Association’s Dollar Per Child initiative with a $1,500 donation, helping ensure Head Start families continue to have a voice nationwide.

CPCD was also thrilled to celebrate Donna Garcia, who received the Aubrey Puckett Memorial Award, a national honor recognizing extraordinary commitment to the Head Start mission through leadership, community involvement, and personal growth. Donna has spent more than 30 years supporting children and families at CPCD, and her impact is felt every single day.
